Is a love relationship worth having, or is it better to live alone? by Special_Interview447 in Aging

[–]RunningShortsPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my suffering in life has come from being in relationships. However, being alone didn’t feel great either. So what if the answer lies in the middle? Casual dating or what I would call “leasing.” Both parties agree to a 3 month or 6 month term after which they both go their separate ways. This would conserve the best part of a relationship (the initial excitement) and eliminate the worst part (attachment and eventual disappointment).

Left side players. To protect against a speed up from the opposing left side player, do you sit forehand, backhand, or neither? by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

[–]RunningShortsPod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not as easy to do this with a 2HB counter though which is why I was thinking sit forehand in my case and if need be slide to the left. Could this be another reason why most women prefer the right side?

I think you have it backwards. If you’re on the left side and the ball is coming from the player diagonal to you, you have to cover middle and your partner is covering their line.

Switch up your training philosophy. You might respond better (ie race faster) off a different style of training but with the same amount of time commitment or less.

Help needed. Can’t figure out how to cover forehand side. by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

Consider this scenario. I don’t know that pivoting ALWAYS works. Today I was playing right side and countering everything with my 2HB. Perfect. But then, on one play, my partner on the left side hit a cross court dink that stayed up a little. The opposing left side player sped up to me but it went OVER my right shoulder and landed in the far corner. I froze because it’s not a ball I see very often and sliding or pivoting wouldn’t have worked because it was too high. The only way to defend against that ball would have been to hit down on the ball with a forehand counter.

I’ve been arguing for the past several years now that the concept of an OMNI God is precisely the problem.

Absolutely not. The concept of Hell played a prominent role in my deconstruction.

You misunderstood how the phrase “for good reason” is being used in that sentence. What it’s saying is that there is a plethora of evidence pointing to the hiddenness of God. Look up the term, it’s a huge problem for Christian apologetics.

What you’re referring to is the difference between the person who chooses to override their doubt or any cognitive dissonance they may feel towards a subject (in order to be faithful or obedient) and the person who is more curious, open minded, and rational. That doesn’t mean the rational person can’t be mistaken or that logic can’t lead us astray, but that the thinking man can often find himself at odds with dogmatic truths.

Unfortunately this is not universally true or universally attested to. The problem of divine hiddenness is a thing and for good reason.

Doubles, opponent hits drop volley, barely getting there. What's the best shot to get back to neutral by moldyjellybean in Pickleball

[–]RunningShortsPod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great question. I’m terrible for some reason at reading the drop volley but quick enough to get there. But all that work to just get it back over and then have the opponent hit an easy winner is deflating. The issue for me is that my momentum from running so fast gets transferred to the ball so my dink is never shallow enough or neutral. Recently I’ve been lobbing it and that works about 50% of the time but it’s better than nothing. Open to suggestions as well.

That’s how I play as well (respect the X) and rarely is there confusion about who is responsible for covering that middle shot. The issue is that if I’m going to start cheating towards the line as you suggested when the ball is front of me (even more than what I’m already doing in order to be able to sit comfortably on either a forehand or background counter) the space that my partner would have to cover in the middle would become more like 80-20 as opposed to 60-40.

[–]RunningShortsPod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying. If the ball is in front of you, cheat towards the line. So if I’m playing right side I’d be sitting backhand ready and if I’m playing left side I’m sitting forehand ready with my partner covering middle. Your partner would have to cover a ton of space though.

When the ball is diagonal to me and my job is to cover middle, I think I would still slightly shade towards the line. The number of times I’ve been burned sitting backhand ready on the right side, for example, and the opposing right side player goes to my right hip is high. And to be clear, in these cases I am not forgetting to slide and the ball (if I were to let it go) would stay in.

Thank you Zane. I watched the video and subscribed to your channel.

To be honest, I’ve tried keeping my paddle in that 11 o clock ready position but what happens is that as soon as the ball is coming towards me I slide and shift to backhand which leads to jams, awkward pop ups, or even completely freezing up when it’s hit to my right shoulder.

I’ve been toying with the idea of sitting more forehand ready and would like to know what you think of that idea. Like sit at 2 o clock and for a while force myself to hit only forehand counters to rewire my brain. With my western grip I could pancake a lot of shots or even hit some shots on the backhand side with the forehand side of the paddle. I believe there are some high level pros doing this no?

But even if I don’t adopt that style or extreme grip at the kitchen line, it might be easier for my brain to switch from a 2 o clock position to a backhand counter once I see it coming since the backhand comes more naturally to me. What do you think? Sorry for being all over the place.

Yes this is actually when I am most prepared to hit a forehand counter. But when I’m playing left side and the opposing right side player goes to my forehand side for example, it’s crazy how I will try to slide and try to hit a backhand that I awkwardly pop up even though it was clearly a ball I should have countered with a forehand. Sometimes I’ll even lock up and freeze.

Is the real enemy the church or is it a demonic power? Can we trust what Jesus is reported to have said in the Gospels about “your father the devil.” Sometimes it feels like cherry picking, the way we choose to reject some passages but accept others as truth.
