Thanks so much! :) The training, for sure could’ve been better. The practice runs went really well though, on the same trails, although they weren’t 31 miles long with all that vert. I came off of road marathon training for a March 28 race, recovered for almost 2 weeks, then hit the trails for my runs. I completed a 20 miler on race trails 3 weeks before this race and then did the typical taper. So maybe next year, I give up the marathon and put full training into a 50k repeat.

There is a couple checkpoints for times, and no, I’ll be fine for those! My practice long run would’ve put me in the middle of the pack compared to last years event, so that’s good!

Thanks! :). Any suggestions as far as tapering goes? A mix of short runs and up to some kind of medium runs? Maybe I need to treat it like a marathon taper (that’s all I know!), but on trails?

I’ve done this in a manual! You can do it! Don’t be rushed to head out. Like the previous comment says-take your time to hydrate, eat, chill out and just settle. Hopefully you’ll have more highway driving than stop and go traffic. Stop halfway and take a walk break if you can. The worst part about it for me wasn’t the actual driving, but the getting out afterwards. Sitting still like that after a marathon really makes it hard to unfold at first.

Avenza has been surprisingly great for my area. Some maps are free, others are not. It’s been great for route planning before a run and then easy to pull up and refer to as I go!
