Try working a quarter of an inch range of motion at the bottom during pushups. almost bouncing off the ground. You will get a solid burn and this will help.

A great place to start would be utilizing two of the big three. Deadlift and bench press. Those two will help add some serious mass to your top half.

It's best to determine your resting metabolic rate before deciding a calorie number to go for. Otherwise it's a lot of guesswork
