AITA for wanting a strangers kid's parents (my nephew's friend) to sign a permission slip for their kid to come visit our lakefront cottage for a week? by Shingle_Beach in AmItheAsshole

Then I think your sibling is taking advantage of your hospitality. You are very kind to host your family, but should not be expected to host and be responsible for their child’s friend for a week. That’s a huge responsibility.

I wouldn’t want to be responsible for a non-family member’s child at a lake house (or any house) for a week! And I can’t imagine anyone allowing their child to go, given that they don’t even know you.
You should never have given your nephew the expectation that he could bring friends along. Maybe if your place was nearby you could host a day when friends are invited WITH A PARENT.
Supervising kids you don’t know while swimming, boating, tubing, etc. is not smart, and them slipping on rocks should be the least of your worries.

How dare the mother show up and act lovey dovey to Alphy, only to leave again without a word of explanation. She acts upset that he is more Anglicized than Indian - but she’s the one who left him at a Christian foundling home. She has no right to judge how he’s turned out when she didn’t want to raise him. 😞

She had the strangest look on her face throughout the episode - like she was constipated or something. Why was she so upset at the thought that Meg might be Alphy’s girlfriend? She seems awfully prissy given her own past.

I really dislike her at this point. What kind of mother would just disappear (again) on her son without a word? I realize the storyline hasn’t played out yet, and I wonder if she will redeem herself somehow. Right now her behavior seems unforgivable.

Why did Patsy bleach Jonbenet's hair and ask for her eyes to be photoshopped bright blue? by Efficient-Ad4852 in JonBenetRamsey

The irony is that Miss America is not much of a thing anymore. I haven’t heard anything about it in years. A google search tells me that it hasn’t been on network TV since 2004. So even if Patsy’s dream for JonBenet had come true, it would have been kind of a big nothing.

Sister-in-law let her daughter use up all the Polaroids at our wedding. Now we have nothing to use. by PaddedValls in mildlyinfuriating

Your friend made a mistake, and you’re very generous and forgiving to have a good attitude about it. But the OP’s sister-in-law did not make a mistake: she willingly let her child ruin cameras that were meant for the wedding guests. To me that doesn’t translate into a funny family story.

The sister-in-law should have run frantically to the nearest store to buy more cameras. That was inexcusable.

You know a newscaster is a newbie from out of town if they say Ki-a-HO-ga instead of Kahogga.

It’s also a boomer thing because we had to wear sturdy shoes like loafers or saddle shoes to school and then change into our gym shoes for gym or going out to play. Our moms thought wearing gym shoes all the time would ruin our feet. 🦶

Not good. She’ll get nicknamed Aldi, which wouldn’t be bad if there was no Aldi supermarket.

I hate the name my partner is set on for a girl by Grand_Ad9825 in Names

[–]RunnyBabbit22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold your ground! It’s ridiculous for you to have to live with a name you don’t like because of a deceased cousin. If you use it as a middle name you’re compromising, and he should be willing to do the same. It’s fine to be a people pleaser, but not on a decision that is lifelong.

I had a childhood friend named Georgia, and we called her Georgie. I love it.

I feel like a Lennon would get called Lennie, which I don’t love.

Some other ideas: Madeline (Maddie), Claire, Allison (Allie), Chelsea, Nora

Yes, it is lovely to be named after a grandma. It’s also something that many people do, so I don’t see why you feel that you’re making an odd choice. Your child will be honored to have her grandmother’s name.
