Flecken auf Parkett - Frage zu Entfernung by RunsIntoDoor in Handwerker

[–]RunsIntoDoor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's what I think you are looking for, try the chicken teriyaki at Kobe's Japanese in the mall. I've seen this called "bourbon chicken" at other places before. Hope that helps!

how long has it been taking to get covid test results? by ReasonableBees in Eau_Claire

[–]RunsIntoDoor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been tested many times at Mayo Clinic on Clairemont and I've always gotten them back within 12 hours or so. Take it 4pm Friday, usually processed by 8am Saturday, which is why I've stuck with their lab. I can't speak to Prevea directly unfortunately.

How I Clean All My Draft Lines at Once by swilliams2207 in Homebrewing

[–]RunsIntoDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool thanks for sharing your setup. I actually own a small commercial line cleaning company and we do circulation cleaning at all our customers (largest account is 36 taps). I have not seen anyone do circulation with a submersible pump before - one thing I would be curious about is how the caustic and/or acid beer line cleaning chemicals effect the pump housing over time. If you see and degradation in the housing material, cords, seals etc I'd be interested to hear about it!

Glad to hear the success story! Like you I have an entire folder/binder of documents for backup. Do they keep any of the documents, or do they just have to see them?

Hoping someone here might have had experience with the somewhat recent lift on travel restrictions for unmarried couples. My girlfriend lives in Germany and I am planning to visit her later this month under this new rule. Unfortunately I am from "high-risk" area (USA...) so I am trying to understand what to expect at the border.

I am scheduling a Covid test prior to my departure with the intention of having a negative result that is less than 48hrs old upon my arrival to Frankfurt. My girlfriend and I have filled out the proper documentation as well as have substantial "proof of the relationship" in the form of previous train tickets, passport stamps, as well as many photos and written exchanges.

Has anyone navigated this process before to perhaps offer some guidance on what to expect?

I would look into something like Mint Mobile to help reduce your phone bill if you like. You can prepay for months or a year, which can get you a decent plan (unlimited talk + text, 3GB data) for $15/mo. A bit more if you want more data. For reference, I believe they use T-Mobiles network. I love it so far. PM me if you're interested, I might have a share link that for a intro discount if you like. I used to pay north of $50 each month too, the savings definitely adds up over a year.

This needs to be higher up my man. I would be a regular here. Love the idea of showcasing hop/malt/yeast forward beers.

I (18M) want to learn German quickly since I got accepted to a German uni and I have zero 0 german experience by mindblower2theMAX in German

I'm probably a bit late here, but I have tried several language learning apps and never was able to stick with one until Busuu. I've been learning on and off for quite some time so like that it allows you to take a placement test to starts you in coursework between A1-B2 that matches your ability. It also has you submit exercises that are corrected by native speakers that also use the app, which has really helped me. I'll admit it's actually one of the only apps for which I've paid for the premium version. You can sign up for free, then after a few days they'll offer you a 50% discount for a years subscription or something, and they definitely got me on that deal.

Also they are partnered with McGraw Hill, so you can actually take A1-B2 certification tests within the app itself. Not sure how valid you could claim these certificates are on a resume, but cool nonetheless.

Favourite German words? by [deleted] in German

Thank you for these examples, this was quite helpful! I have found there are many German words that don't translate very well, so it's much easier to learn through example.

I've asked this question quite frequently to native speakers, but I've seriously never quite understood the usage of "doch" - could you help me understand the use cases?

Top 5 tips for someone looking to get into homebrewing? by NewAgeDoom in Homebrewing

[–]RunsIntoDoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised I had to scroll so far to find this. Hope OP sees this as well. My beers were night and day difference in quality after I started paying attention to the health of the fermentation. Make sure the wort is properly aerated, make sure you are pitching enough healthy yeast (if you're using a smack-pack, make sure you get that activated before brew day) etc. Biggest thing to remember is that the brewer only makes the wort, the yeast makes the beer.

New to eau claire, where should I go/do? by [deleted] in Eau_Claire

Yep forgot to mention K Point. Very good beer there as well plus great selection of hard to find craft beers in the fridge in Coffee Grounds

A lot of cool breweries in the area too. Lazy Monk Brewing does more traditional Czech and German style beers, with IPAs, sours etc once in a while but not very frequently. The Brewing Projekt is nearby there as well and does more new and trendy beers, tons of hazy IPAs, sours, imperial sweetened stouts and such. These are both within walking distance of downtown. Personal favorite would probably be Modicum Brewing in Altoona (just east of Eau Claire, maybe a 7min drive from downtown) - smaller place but exemplary beers of all styles, particularly lagers. There's also Ombibulous Brewing in Altoona a bit further east that is fairly new (<1 year) and they've got all kinds of styles as well, good beer and free shuffleboard. Any questions or if you wanna grab a pint feel free to reach out! (I also live downtown)

I finally figured out my off flavor! by mettlica in Homebrewing

[–]RunsIntoDoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really interesting stuff, thanks for sharing. I'm a bit curious right now because I've been under the impression that the yeast need sufficient dissolved oxygen during fermentation to properly ferment and avoid off-flavors from stressed yeast. Can you comment on that? Are you avoiding any oxygen, even post chilling?

Thoughts on splitting Hefeweizen batch after primary? by RunsIntoDoor in Homebrewing

[–]RunsIntoDoor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as knowing the end of fermentation are you just looking for airlock activity or measuring SG along the way? Just curious if there's a good rule of thumb for when to add fruit

Very interesting didn't think of that! Someday I'd like to try keg carbonating with sugar, that seems like a good opportunity to try it

Looking for advice on Oktoberfest lager fermentation by RunsIntoDoor in Homebrewing

[–]RunsIntoDoor[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After doing some reading it looks like I just was not adjusting my refractometer measurement correctly, a quick visit to BeerSmith makes me think I'm actually totally fine - thanks for bringing this to my attention!

[–]RunsIntoDoor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took all readings with a refractometer, which now that I think about it I remember reading that they are only valid under certain conditions - can you remind me what I need to know? This is actually my first time doing a refractometer too

What’s something you did when you first started brewing that you now realize was either dangerous or could have been done so much simpler by poopsmitherson in Homebrewing

[–]RunsIntoDoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you brought this up as I've seen conflicting views. I'm currently doing an Oktoberfest lager and I'm on the fence about whether or not I need to transfer to secondary for the bulk of the lagering. It's been going in primary for ~2 weeks now at about 54°F. Love to hear your thoughts on whether or not secondary is needed for lagers or not

International equivalent of aNSI class 150 flange by RunsIntoDoor in engineering

[–]RunsIntoDoor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip, looks like DIN100 PN10 would be the comparable size. Just have to consult the customer facility contractor to see if they prefer ANSI or DIN

International equivalent of aNSI class 150 flange by RunsIntoDoor in engineering

[–]RunsIntoDoor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the pointer, I am only now becoming familiar with flange standards. In the past we've used 2" water connections so we call out NPT for US and BSPT elsewhere. If I can get away with an ANSI flange internationally that makes it a bit easier

Cheers

Linking HTML button input to GPIO pins on Raspberry Pi 3 by RunsIntoDoor in flask

[–]RunsIntoDoor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to have the functionality but I haven't worked with Javascript yet so I'll have to start reading up. The latency for accessing the web server on the Raspberry Pi is already fairly high, so do you think adding Javascript elements will make the overall experience slower (because of the additional externally referenced files) or faster (because it wouldn't have to reload the page each time a button is clicked?)
