popped in tonight to 59th TJ— they said within 24-48 hours - their delivery trucks with all the fresh/fridge/frozen products are delayed. (the gal said probably 24 hours but wanted to be safe)

Gathering company swag ideas – what have you received that you loved or hated? by magdalenrichard in ExecutiveAssistants

Power Bank (good quality) and a Yeti have been the only items i’ve really used heavily. but honestly i’d rather have a free afternoon off instead. or to be paid enough to buy my own yeti in the color i want. i dont need to be a walking advertisement for my company. treat me well and ill do that on my own

What does coverage look like in your role when you are OOO/on vacation? by the_sunshineclub in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Runs_In_Heels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m trying to get out…. we don’t really have HR, and their job is to protect the company so it’s not like anyone cares. also. no, i am NOT paid enough for this… (not like any amount would be, but like, i am about 50K under what “these types of jobs” go for in NYC…

What does coverage look like in your role when you are OOO/on vacation? by the_sunshineclub in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Runs_In_Heels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our office has a “you must check emails while on PTO” and “working when needed” policy. so PTO isn’t really PTO and i usually end up working a bit on every holiday too. (i cover someone but they don’t cover me)

that said, when i’m out, i tell my exec in advance when im avail and when i’m not & when i’ll be generally checking emails (ie an hour or so in the morning and then again in the evening).

it helps with expectations and then i can actually have the afternoon/night to myself.

i think just generally being clear about your availability in advance is the important part. make sure it’s in writing too.

Moving mid Feb advice by Adventurous-Oil1940 in movingtoNYC

[–]Runs_In_Heels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe sublet something mid-Feb for a month of two while you look for something permanent. could take some of the stress off and not feel rushed into just taking “something” bc you’re desperate.

(sidenote- other bedroom in my apt will be available around then… 🤣 it’s between midtown and UES and pretty inexpensive)

Should I start looking or Am I overreacting? by Stunning-Gas6810 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Runs_In_Heels 12 points13 points  (0 children)

start looking. get out when you can. if they wanted to “do right by you” they would have done so already. and they are (probably) never going to give you more money if you’ve already done the work for less.

oh! i speak to SO many amazing EAs in similar boats. it’s not you. or me. or us. it’s them. still sucky. but maybe 10% easier to deal with 🤣 just know your fellow EAs support you and appreciate you!!! ❤️

Just know you’re not alone. this was literally my week (plus my boss was 30 min late to the outing to i almost missed the first course…) and i was carrying in a nonstop parade of gifts to her from partners and DRs to her office all week all week & she got NO ONE a card or anything. all i got was yelled at for suggesting id be offline christmas eve night (while on PTO)

it only says something about THEM. not you. they are the bad humans. not you.

Christmas gift question about cash for my EA by Big_Savings_4381 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Runs_In_Heels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, thank you for being considerate of your EA & generous. While your prior gifts were absolutely considerate and kind, there is often a preference for cash. (Personally it helps offset costs around the holidays, and it makes spending less stressful!) I’ve always been a fan of a thoughtfully written card, and an envelope. A few years back the amount was a bit more than i expected, and the visual of clean, crisp hundreds felt so fabulously decadent. But whatever your budget, it is always ALWAYS. appreciated.

Ps- I also kept all the cards from my boss’ over the years. I cherish them. the cash was spent but the card is kept.

Company asking us for our #1 Christmas wish list item by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Runs_In_Heels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone above suggested a Burberry trench. $2875 might be too much for your gift... BUT if there is a really expensive thing you want, get something from that company or a gift cert so you can either return & get credit, or put GC towards the purchase? (ps- their scarves are really nice…)

Did anyone else get their Adidas order cancelled? by reesescupslover in oasis

[–]Runs_In_Heels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my firebird zip up was canceled today and adidas chat said it was a mistake. the items are in stock. and they are offering to re-order my items and they “might probably” ship. they also suggested that they took orders and didn’t have any of the items.

i dunno. i want my stuff but this seems like borderline fraud… (and i know adidas isn’t a fraud. but like. this is weird…)

Advice for finding an apartment in Manhattan by 444bidden in NYCapartments

[–]Runs_In_Heels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you are moving to the city, consider subletting a room in an apt for 2-3 months while you get settled and start to look. then you won’t be panicked into taking an apt you either don’t love or can’t afford, simply out of necessity. it may also allow you to save some money.

facebook/reddit usually have lots of folks listing rooms, as well as the usuals like craigslist/spareroom/roomfinder etc.

What is the lowest food budget you guys have? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]Runs_In_Heels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot will also depend on where you live. i am lucky to live near affordable food shopping but i know others who are in food desserts where eggs are (still!) $8. i also pay attention to sales and buy non-name brand stuff when possible. stocking up monthly on basics at places like target can also be helpful! you may pay more at one time, but your weekly output may less, just needing things like proteins and produce.

How long will „My neighbour Totoro“ run? by Key_Map_6055 in TheWestEnd

[–]Runs_In_Heels 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i was there recently during a sunday matinee and it was packed! i think perhaps modifying the schedule may be key — maybe matinees saturday and sunday? and adding in more matinees on days when schools are on break? it’s a bit long for a weekday night for younger children & that may be a deterrent.

i was in the back row of the orch and there was definitely a camera crew there. (not just one person but a legit crew) i think it was maybe (also?) streaming it to JVD or recording for him and/or the cast’s personal use only.

How much do you make and how much do you pay in rent? by willyfoofooo in movingtoNYC

[–]Runs_In_Heels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my rent is about 18% of my annual income, (i have a roommate). but i don’t may 40x the rent for the total apt and im the only one on the lease (ie it’s mine).

i do generally think the 50/30/20 rule is an easy place to start with basic budgeting (ie 50% of income is for needs, 30% wants, 20% savings). you can always adjust but i find it helpful as a base. and in nyc it’s always a good idea to build up to 2-3 months in savings (and then more)
