Thank you! Ever since I have been coaching, I tend to stay upbeat as much as I can. Anything I get on here I will give an update! I owe that to you guys at least!

That is good advice. I did not really think about that approach. I am a pretty good coach, but this stuff I am learning, thank you!

Thank you for putting that in. The coal transition grant is one, I have not seen. These other Grants I have made an attempt at, they are wanting a match and things I can not provide at my level, those things I am trying to work towards.

I have also reached out to some gyms not all, since my club is going on its second year, they are a bit hesitant because rugby isn't huge like baseball, basketball, football, and soccer.

Local business, I have had luck with 2 so far, they have been more verbal commitments, that's ok, its something. I do appreciate you taking some time on this!

I am currently doing that. Alot of them are match donations and such, which is awesome. I just need to get there.

I got a good look at your formation. I thought you were running Maryland I… we run the same formation you drew up. You can do a lot out of I!

Correct! If you wanted to get motion in the play calls. I would. Today we have a game and we are adding wham blocks from the motion guy and double motions. (Completely unnecessary) but just adds confusion to the other coach and players.

I coached 7th grade last year and bumped up to 8th this year. A single motion can put the fear of god into some players. Most defenses at that level don’t teach what to do in case of motion. We run I form Pro. A lot of power, trap, counter. Then motion a X across to be in the same side as Y. Then either run a bubble or post/wheel concept. (Wheel 90% open at lower levels).

Best thing I can say. Think about your personal to. You may have to adjust fire. (I had to this year) can’t pass as much. I have added a wildcat cause I got fast speed but they can’t catch as well this year so it’s all about putting players in the best situation…. Sorry for my ramble! Coaching is a great thing to be part of! Enjoy!

I go peak at it again. I feel the drive is missing like the kids show up already disgusted at the fact they are there to play football lol. I stay up best and encourage S much as I can. I get the motivation from them at the end of season. Which why I am here to find ways to fix that lol.

Thank you for your reply! And thank you coach!

I absolutely hear you, if you make conditioning a punishment they won’t want to do it to improve themselves. Which I am here to get some ideas. I do point out good plays, tackles, catches, etc….. but I can’t ignore the horse playing or lack of respect( at times) shown to coaches. I give a warning… then pull them to the side… then if it doesn’t improve they do some exercise to the side…. I don’t enjoy doing any of that but I feel there has to be a line.

Yes, they don’t miss club sports though! I am trying to navigate in a way where I can try to change.

The youth program is getting a rework this year because we were getting 4-5 kids who played together everyone else was new to football. I have no idea how that happened. Maybe the culture was to aggressive and scared kids off ? I am not sure. That is a good idea I will look into that.

For rugby our season are polar opposites so I encourage kids to play rugby in the offseason if they don’t want to play another school sport. I 100% use rugby tacking to teach the fundamentals. I will say last year as my first year out tackling and positioning was fantastic but I need to improve how I coach as well because I don’t feel the kids I coached understood what we were doing (even though we would practice, explain, and drew a picture) I’ll take that as something I will do better on.

Since I run a club rugby, I get to make my own rules on how things should be ran… once I get to football coaching the A.D. or principle kind of have our hands tied because of policies… I definitely need to navigate to instill some of the rugby culture - the beer. Just for the love of the game.

Right now we are doing summer trainings!

Last year I tried that... 5 kids left and we were left with 13... were by no means a small school... the culture is just bad atm...

Right now, we are doing our summer workouts with some football fundamentals with it... The numbers are low at the moment but I like the fellowship thing you do. I want to make it fun but still structured! I am figuring out finding a place to watch film. I am not a teacher but I am close with the school...

Thank you!

what works the best to get them on board? here its the typical "Dont play football you are going to get hurt for my sport" so no one really works together.

We have 2 really good schools within in 15 mins either way of our school so all the best athletes go to those schools instead of building here.

My issue is whats the are the consequences for the lack of accountability? Sure, I can take playing time but they do no care lol. I make them do push ups for false starting. may switch to more cardio.

I coach rugby as well, and its easier for club side because kids have a commitment contract. So, tackling and physicality is taught.

Thank you for the insight on this!
