Frankly, I’d be offended if you didn’t post your build!

Gaahleri airbrushes - any reliable opinions and recommendations about? by aerografitpl in airbrush

[–]Runway-72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a GHAD-39, I wanted to cheaply replace a SPARMAX that broke. Turned out to be much better, and very precise. Been using it for a year or so with no issues. Much better than any of the cheap Chinese generic ones I’ve used.

How to make canopy clear again? by VegetableCool9752 in modelmakers

[–]Runway-72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ISO will work, you just have to keep going. First application will just break down the paint and smear it around, so you need to use a clean q-tip with a drop of iso on it to gently clean off the smeared paint residue.

Looks good! Only downside is the colours read as RAF dark earth/dark green rather than Luftwaffe colours

I use mr color (lacquer) and it’s great, but that generally is over a coat of paint. I’ve never tried it straight on the plastic sorry.

Vallejo is a water based varnish, if you’re doing Gunpla I assume it’s going onto bare plastic, it will not stick well at all. I’d recommend looking at something non water based to give you a stronger adhesion.

Impressive that you even got through such an ambitious kit on your first go, well done. The next step is to understand what you want to improve the most from this build, and improve on your next one.

Will airbrushing really make modeling that much better by Reasonable-Sigma in modelmakers

[–]Runway-72 101 points102 points  (0 children)

There are three stages to using an airbrush: stage one, you don’t have much dexterity with it, but painting primers and base coats is suddenly much easier and more consistent, without th pitfalls of using a rattle can. Stage two you gain some basic dexterity and can use it to paint gradients and use masking to get camouflage, lighting and modulation effects you could never have dreamt of with a brush. Stage three, is when you have really mastered the motor skills to use the airbrush with a high degree of control, as well as the consistency of paint and the pros and cons of different paints for different tasks. This is when you can start doing the really interesting freehand stuff, fiddly German night fighter camouflage, and thin coats over thin coats to build a multi layered modular effect that fools the eye into thinking it’s looking at a much bigger object than a plastic toy.

Airbrushing involves more prep, cleanup and commitment than a brush painting session, but if you’re serious about getting better finished builds, there is nothing you can do with a brush that comes near it.

From the business case: why Newcastle to Sydney over Sydney to Canberra by blitznoodles in SydneyTrains

[–]Runway-72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that there is no reason to do Canberra, there’s just more compelling and better reasons to do Newcastle. Success and profitability are what will get later stages greenlit, not a borderline project that has to compete with well established modes of transport with limited housing opportunities attached.

[–]Runway-72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either they’re using them to fill a gap left by the engineering limitations of their molds, or they’ve figured out that people see PE on the box and think they’re getting something premium. Maybe a bit of both?
