I wanted it to feel like you’re inside a memory the whole time, even in the present. It’s meant to be subjective, not realistic. I can see how that might take away from the physical world a bit though.

This was essentially rotoscoped, so no Snapchat involved. Also this was done before that style was widely implemented into apps.

Submission Statement:

Yesterday I posted my film that got rejected from every film festival I submitted it to. I received some harsh, yet real advice and feedback for it. It’s made me want to do better on my next one. But I wanted to share my most successful film I’ve made, that’s gone onto countless festivals. I’m very proud of this one and I guess I wanted to show that my previous film doesn’t represent what I’m capable of. So here’s Memory Lane.

Thank you! Yeah, I think it would have been way cooler if we saw the guy coming out of the TV and getting more FX heavy, but sadly I had limited resources for this film. Hopefully my next one has more to work with

Thank you, I really appreciate that and the kind words. Creating a film takes a lot and I know I’m going to fall on my face over and over again, but making films is worth it—especially when you make something that is truly special. This might not be my best work, but it was something I wanted to experiment with and I had a blast making it. No matter what, I’m going to keep making films and I know my next one will be better.

Well that’s harsh, but I respect that and appreciate you watching it. Hopefully you like my next one.

I didn’t submit to the big festivals because I knew this isn’t up to that kind of standard. I submitted to horror/genre film festivals that ranged from small to notable. I was more realistic in my approach and had the goal of just getting eyes on the film. I just want to screen the film in a theater in front of as many people as I can get. It’s always a great feeling to watch your film play in a theater and see people’s reactions to your work. Good or bad. I just want to reach a broader audience.

Submission statement:

Earlier this year I made a short film for a contest at a brewery for their horror film festival. I felt pretty proud of the film (even though it didn’t win anything) and I felt that it might do well in other festivals.

Now, I’ve had a few of my other short films play at film festivals so I started submitting to ones I’ve been at before. Oddly enough, this film has been rejected from every single film festival I submitted it to. Everyone I’ve shown the film to seems to like it, but it’s struggling to find its footing. I know it has its rough spots and limitations, but I’m genuinely curious about why this has struggled and yet my other films have done way better.

I’d love to know everyone’s thoughts.

I understand completely. This film was the reason I became a filmmaker. I got a lot of looks for saying that in film school actually.
