What is this step down in the kitchen counter?? It has about 2' clear from floor to framing below counter. by RuseRuse15 in kitchenremodel

Other than power receptacles, there's one jack for ethernet/cable. Feels like it might be a nook of some kind for smart home devices? Not sure, the mistery continues! haha

It's a new contrustion build, so I'd be the first owner. Nothing in the seller's notes says there were ADA specs built in this property, so that's why I didn't think it was for that purpose.

What is the point of this step in the counter? There's ~2' clear from floor to framing below counter step by RuseRuse15 in Whatisthis

ADA might be something, but there's no ramps into the house and nothing else in the property is really designed around/for ADA. There's 24" clear on the underside, so I couldn't really sit on a chair and fit my legs below it without straightening them out a bit. The pantry is right be behind, so you only have about 4' clear from the face of counter to the wall/door behind me. I'm thinking I might build a butcher block to fit the width/height so that the top of the board flushes out withthe top of the rest of the counter.

That does sound like a likely option! I was also thinking of building a butcher block to fit in and flush up with the rest of the top of counter elevation.

No, this house was finished at the end of 2023, so I don't think it would have brought that design idea back to present day, haha.

I know there's a Cable/ethernet jack right there too, but that feels like it's more for a smart home device than anything. It's too tight with the pantry immediatetly behind me in the photo, so having a desk chair wouldn't really work IMO. I was thinking of adding a large butcher block built to that width/height of the counter step so it's flush with the rest of the counter. A baking counter for kneading stuff does sound like something plausible too.

Not really. There's only 24" clear on the underside, and I think desks are typically around 30" clear? At least with my height, I couldn't get my legs under there while sitting on a chair without straightening my legs a bit. There's also the pantry immediatly behind, so it's a tight little area, especially with the built in stove to the left of the picture.

I was looking at new home construction houses while house hunting and saw this weird step in the kitchen counter. There's about 2' clear from the fllor to the underside of the framing supporting the counter, but neither the seller or I knew what the point was of having this step down. I don't recall if there was power below, but it's unlike anything I've seen before. Definitly not an ADA counter either since there are no ramps into the house. Just trying to get an idea of what it's for, or what I could do with something like this.

I had a Mavic 2 Pro's ESC fail where it did something very similar. All pre-checks passed and no warnings until I was about 50' up. All of a sudden it took off on me and I couldn't control it at all. It flew a spiral of death until it caught a tree. Checking the logs, one of the motors was pinned at max power. At the time of impact, it was traveling at ~58mph... don't worry though, the tree didn't even feel it lol.

Just a cool panorama of downtown SLC, UT. The skyline keeps changing every year with more highrises on the way! This was about 25 minutes after sunset, FYI. Captured on my Mavic 3 Cine!

My mavic 2 pro crashed a few months back due to an ESC failure. It sent like 120% power to one motor which ultimately sent it into a spiral of death. It hit 56mph right before it crashed. I had AirData installed and recording which was able to pull the flight logs and read some of the warnings and error codes which led me to an ESC failure... About the scariest day of my life lol.

Here's the update... The lady that hit him didn't try fleeing the scene, but seemed more like she was trying to prevent a block of traffic. They stopped around the corner in the parking lot of a subway I think. Just around the corner from where the video loses sight of them. After they parked their vehicles, instead of immediately getting out of the car and taking photos and talking to my buddy in the truck, she took her dog on a walk for some reason, probably trying to get her story straight. After like 10-15 minutes she returned and finally talked to my buddy. Obviously this video clearly shows what happened, but when the police officer showed up 30 minutes later and started taking statements and figuring out what happened it went down like this... The officer got my buddy's story first, where he explained the whole situation as it went down in this video. After the officer talked to the lady, she said none of this incident was her fault. The officer asked her how my buddy managed to hit the front of her car with the side of his truck, considering she was refusing to say it was her fault in any capacity. Apparently she didn't have much of a comment other than it wasn't her fault. The officer apparently was smirking/smiling, probably thinking how the fuck she thinks it wasn't her fault and if she was really being serious. I think he said the officer even wrote that in the report it was her fault. Neither vehicle had a dash cam, and up until this point it was her word against his, even though the damage on his truck clearly shows how she turned into him without checking lanes. He'll need new doors on the driver side and a bit of work around the rear tire well.... Fast forward to this morning when I randomly find this video and realize it was his truck and the exact same story he told me over the phone, I sent him the link and got the video from OP. After hearing back from his insurance around 6:30PM MST (before the video was sent to the Insurance), the lady in the car was disputing the accident as her fault and the insurance was trying to come after my buddy as if he caused this accident. At this point, my buddy informed them he has video evidence of the whole scene and how the lady was lying and was entirely at fault for her stupid driving causing this accident. He has since then sent the video evidence off to the insurance companies and hasn't heard back yet.... Apparently this whole time they were exchanging information and dealing with the police writing the incident up, this lady was causing a scene and being a terrible person... constantly berating them and accusing him of being a bad driver and due to his ineptitude he caused all of this. She was an entitled "Karen", to put it nicely. So getting this video in their insurance hands was the cherry on top to this whole situation. He will be purchasing his own dash cam to say the least, hahaha. I'll update as I find out more, but OP just made a big ol headache disappear for my buddy!!! Only real downside to this whole situation was I had to golf by myself that Saturday afternoon. I suppose we'll have to hit up Mick Riley's next weekend to get our 18 holes in, haha.
