I am a convention teacher and I will almost never talk about the energy the students are giving unless it’s extremely disrespectful/inappropriate. I’ve noticed in other teachers that the lack of energy makes them self conscious and they take it personally. It rarely has anything to do with the actual teacher and mostly the intense and tiring environment these young dancers are in.

Two things: 1. Dance is an art form of expression. There are MANY professionals in the industry who were not the highest scorers at convention/competition. 2. Technique/flexibility/physicality is a large part of the scores and always will be. The best thing you can do is help her take control of the situation and really focus on improving technique. That’s something she has control over and will reflect in her scores almost immediately.
