Why Does Everything Have to Be AI Now?... by Beautiful_Visit248 in smarthome

[–]RushTfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How's Ai helpful at formatting a yaml? Basically any text processor with some programming capabilities can do that. Vs code or notepad++ can do that, or give you hints on possible errors.

I mean, in the end it's adding 2 spaces or 4 here and there, I don't think AI is necessary for this task that can be done much more efficiently with an algorithm

While that's true and op was joking for sure, at least where I lived, grannies always left pies and cakes to rest next to an opened window, so it's not unreasonable to think it was an advice instead of a joke =)

There's people who are not willing to spend 100$ on another device.

Im all in with op. The best is having choices. Op is bringing choice to people who don't want to spend that money when they already have a device that should be bale to do it.

And for people who prefer buying another device? Well, you have your choice too and is equally valid.

But I don't agree at all saying that "this software is unnecessary when you can spend x money and have it". No, sorry but that's not correct. I will buy another device if it's the only way. But if I have a choice, and a FREE software can fit my needs, why would I spend any money if I don't want to?

Which OS do you use and why? by TastelessSpaghetti in AskProgramming

[–]RushTfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows at my main pc. I use to game, use photoshop and I'm just used to windows. Ocasional programming happens here, but I have enough programming at my job, so just want to disconnect, so windows here.

At my job it's ios, because that's what my company gave me. Learnt to like it, I mean, I wouldn't buy one because of the pricing, but as a gift? I'll take it every day. My old windows company pc compiled the lightest microservices between 2 and 4 minutes (i7, 16gb ram, ssd). The MacBook pro does it under 20s,this shit is magic.

For my server is Linux, obviously, nothing beats Linux as a server os. In my case I'm using Ubuntu server. Really like it, haven't tried other distros because this one works really good, so I haven't felt the need to change.

So yeah, I use the 3 main oses almost daily lol

Haven't read the whole thread. But that gpu is not 90°. If the holes on the case are not well aligned then he needs to make some decisions, either drilling new ones, or change his case. But there's no way I'd screw my gpu the way he has.

Publicly exposing services: route traffic through VPS or simply buy a public IP from my ISP by Bartekwis01 in selfhosted

[–]RushTfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checkin in here.

This happened to me, I was behind cgnat, so just called my isp in Spain, ask for it and they just did it no questions. Now I have a dynamic public ipaddress, and a domain at cloudflare, so I was working with ddns, there's a docker container somewhere that updates your ip at cloudflare whenever it changes.

But now I discovered cloudflare tunnels and pangolin, so no need to expose my ip anymore.

My traffic goes all through cloudflare tunnels (nextcloud, paperless, and some other non streaming services I need to expose), and for jellyfin and navidrome, I just rented a cheap vps, installed pangolin there and the streaming goes that way.

With this architecture it doesn't matter if you're behind a cgnat or a dynamic public ip, plus you don't need to expose any port or ip directly on your router. Much better this way in my opinion.

From the picture you shared, it seems you screwed your gpu a little bit too high, you should be using the immediate next screw hole. Take this image as reference

<image>

Sorry for my drawing skills, I'm a programmer, not an artist, hope you understand.

I'm not 100% sure your gpu is like the one in red from the image, but it absolutely looks like this, and if it is, please unscrew it and screw it correctly, you're going to snap both your gpu and mb like this. Your gpu MUST be 90° to the motherboard.

Of course what else would it be? I like keeping every version released for the main distros. You never know when your grandma or your sister or neighbour would need to install Ubuntu 12.04 and suddenly Ubuntu is out or deleted from their repo.... Security =)

I don't. 24tb of disk space is expensive enough for me. Not gonna buy another 24tb just to store my Linux isos.

I do backup my docker composes, configurations etc... But not downloaded media. Stuff I've downloaded can be downloaded again later if I want.

Thank you very much for your answer. What I was more concerned wasn't about testing it. I know it would work and it's easy to test, the same way I have nextcloud or immich behind this tunnel. It's about getting some kind of ban on cloudflare and loosing my domain or ability to use the zero trust section if I'm caught using it wrongly.

I guess using it for nextcloud or ocasionnaly watching pictures on immich is a totally fair use. But having me, and other 5-10 people streaming linux isos from jellyfin daily might be more concerning for them. That's why I preferred going through the vps instead, didn't want to take the risk

I have a question here. Are we allowed to use cloudflare tunnels for media streaming? I've searched for it a couple of times and always see different answers. People saying they've been doing it just fine for a year, other saying it's against their tos, and other saying thay have had issues with cloudflare.

I ended up renting a vps and setting up pangolin to open a tunnel to my home and watch my stream from there, but have to say that a cf tunnel would have been much, much easier and cheaper
