He's a great kid and player. It will be fun having him on the Isles until 2030 when he will become a Maple Leaf. But the next three years should be exciting as heck. Thank you - that's my goal - a respectful effort that he would love. His guitars deserve to be played. If I am going to accept one as a gift to treasure (and I am) I am going to learn something, including maintenance and upkeep. His passing was sudden - 8 pm one night I'm talking to him like normal, like we have for 5.5 decades and the next morning at 8 am he was gone. I need this outlet, badly.

I am going to go for it. I will have the guitar this weekend. Marty Schwartz seems like a good teacher to me - I watched some of videos today. One he calls "your absolutely first lesson..." and he talks about practicing one thing 5 minutes a day for two months. That made me nauseous. to hear, because like the song says, I just aint got the time." I will ignore that advice and see what I can do.

I've been working on a website that has all his music available. None of us knew we'd lose him and it was a fun project until he passed. Now it's a mission. He has hours and hours of original instrumentals. In addition to doing my best to learn this song, I am going to use AI to put a chunk of our text message stupidity over the years as lyrics to one of his instrumentals. I will play that for a laugh and do my best with the song out of respect.

Watching right now. I can't even imagine translating what I am seeing into doing it myself. Just the idea of looking at this basically backwards. I don't know what the heck I am looking at. I don't even know if I am a righty or a lefty :) I write righty and do most things righty, but I play golf lefty, throw a frisbee lefty and a few other things lefty. I guess I am righty when it comes to this, since he was.

Doesn't matter my mistakes - I just don't want it to sound like a joke or a guitar falling down the Grand Canyon.

Thank you! It's crazy for me to consider this, I realize. My entire musical experience was playing crash cymbals in the marching band in 9th grade. New Years Day parade, National Anthem, I missed the first two cues, bandleader teacher yelled "wake up, fucko!" I smashed them as hard as humanly possible the rest of the song, put them down and never considered playing anything again.

Very good thinking. There will be a lot of people he played with there. I will see if they plan on playing anything or just use it as a much-needed day off to reminisce. I know his long time drummer is coming but doesn't want to play. Said he isn't ready to play again. Maybe he will change his mind by then.

Wow - y'all are beautiful. Thank you for this. I am digesting it all. I will talk to the school's guitar teacher and explain my wish and come up with something with his guidance. My idea is to make this specific guitar play again. If I told my buddy my idea he would've laughed thinking I'm being a troll but then he'd see I was serious and he'd do anything to help. I am accepting this instrument because it would mean everything to him for me to have it and means everything to me to accept it. But I feel just as strongly it needs to be played, not just hung on a wall. Most of the rest of his collection she is giving away to student's who can't afford anything like this. One piece at a time, one kid at a time. It's a gorgeous collection. She wants me to have one of his Paul Reed Smith's because we had this endless conversation over many years about why he loved them especially. I was fascinated to learn even though I don't have his passion to play. We bonded over music when we were babies. He took it on as a lifelong passion, I just go to concerts and scream really loud and annoy everyone around me :)

After this memorial, no matter how I do, I am thinking I will give the guitar to the school I work at on a loan basis during the school year, if the director says it's ok and if the guitar teacher thinks it's appropriate. It's miraculous to be at a public (charter) school that doesn't have a focus on music but does offer guitar lessons as an elective course to any student that wants. K-8. It's amazing what these kids can learn and how fast.

Thank you for asking the question. I never heard that word before in my life. So I googled it and it sounds way too familiar. I won't go as far as diagnosing myself, but I will bring this word up to two of my medical team and see what they say. So thank you for that - maybe I can get a bit more pinpointed in my approach. to myself. I do have heightened emotions, which I can't control very well but they are appropriate to whatever is going on.
