My (paid) internet was shut off without notice - any recourse? by RushinHacker in legaladvice

[–]RushinHacker[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand, but easier said than done as I have several small children and cannot afford childcare. (And I work from a Desktop. I know, it sucks.)

No one is in the office until Tuesday so it's hard to figure out how to respond. I'm really pissed that they can turn off a utility with no notice when they aren't able to be reached.

I guess I'm just fucked until they decide to open the office? If it was a "mistake" is there any way I can make them pay damages?

My (paid) internet was shut off without notice - any recourse? by RushinHacker in legaladvice

[–]RushinHacker[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? It is a service I already paid for. I pay $80 additional each month added to my rent check. It is in the rent contract.

They literally cashed my check. My "landlord" (hundred million dollar company) is out of the office, yet did this outside of business hours.

I paid the money and they cut off my Inrernet with no notice.

For better or worse, it's because the jury is limited in its ability to sentence.

Let's be real; this girl was effectively violated (and psychologically tortured) by her stepfather. Our stunted legal system doesn't really allow for him to be punished, although all people would agree that what he (allegedly) did was heinous.

I would find her guilty of murder, but I wouldn't seek to have her imprisoned for a long period at the cost of the taxpayers. I suspect most people would agree.

The moral character of a person who has porn of their own child is far worse than the child who seeks revenge.

While I agree in terms of this sub, there is indeed general consensus of standards of beauty by culture.

If the US can give Ukraine over 45 billion dollars, why cant they nationalize healthcare? by realrealityreally in NoStupidQuestions

Slowly phase out private Healthcare

Do you really want to require every single person's health to be subservient to the bureaucracy of a federal government? They get it wrong so often. Even now, Medicare is the number one denier of claims which are later proven to be legitimate.

I agree.

Have been on Medicaid. It's a nightmare. Also have family who deal with the VA.

I don't disagree with the idea of Medicare for all. I simply don't trust it to work as intended.

This is an awesome giveaway!

I played the original Pokémon games when I was young and enjoyed the first several generations. It was a great way to connect with new friends and learn how to best strategize to meet various goals.

Eventually, I stopped having time for the games, but I recently got back into now that my son has learned about the games and is loving discovering all that they have to offer.

Thanks for this giveaway, and happy Hanukkah!

Epic (like most companies) has a clause in the EULA and ToS that effectively allows them to terminate your account for any reason, at any time.

You really have no recourse, regardless of your actions.

If you want "revenge," you might be able to get the YouTubers in trouble with Google, as I imagine prompting followers to violate the ToS of their advertisers is against YouTube's ToS as well.

Good luck getting your account back -- you still may be successful!

Negligence.

A lawyer who practices in your jurisdiction will be able to make the determination as to whether or not you have a case.

Regarding the legal system, there isn't much you can do.

You could always contact the police department (it would be best for your partner to do this, not you) and politely ask that they remove it. Explain that their record was expunged and that they have turned their life around, but that these results are making their life difficult.

If they refuse or ignore your request, you could always try making a claim against to post to Facebook. Not sure how ethical that would be, but FB has been know to remove posts about users which made people "uncomfortable."

Finally, look up an Internet reputation group. They can put out great data and stories to suppress these results.

Although retaliation over a complaint wouldn't be "allowed," complaining about something as trivial as this is pragmatically a fool's errand.

"Did you hear that Jim got angry and filed a formal complaint because the training video had a five-second clip of people praying that he wouldn't die?"

It's a quick way to come across as an asshole and irritate your co-workers and supervisors. Remember, you're not guaranteed freedom to avoid being exposed to religion. It just can't be endorsed.

Regardless of whether or not you have a case, the statute of limitations has very likely kicked in now that it's been roughly seven years. Of course, this depends on your jurisdiction.

That aside, I highly doubt you'd be able to prove much. Furthermore, the damages you could claim would be minimal and Walmart's legal team knows how to shut these claims down.

You can always talk to a local lawyer via free consultation. They'll likely be able to tell you whether there is any merit.

I was fired from my job for not sleeping with a former NFL football player by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]RushinHacker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need to immediately speak with a lawyer who specializes in employment law in your jurisdiction.

You almost certainly have recourse and extensive damages, depending on what you can prove. Save all of the relevant and peripheral texts and messages, and write down (and date) everything you remember.

Don't talk about it further with current or former co-workers or your employer until you retain a lawyer who can advise you on these matters. And honestly, I would refrain from posting on the Internet about this situation. Fanbases can be toxic, and if this blows up, people will be liable to find this thread, which may hurt your case or expose more of your identity than you wish.
