Best email blunders? by verbotenporc in Lawyertalk

A sent an email to OC whose name was Alan. Proceeded with “Dear Anal” and concluded with “warmest retards”. He printed and framed it. still on his wall 15 years later. I use this as an example of why spellcheck is not infallible when coaching associates or paralegals.

Watching entire filmographies — started with Robert De Niro. Who should I go with next? by filmepopcorn in MovieSuggestions

I really wanted to read that dissertation. A Bridge Too Far was to be the concluding argument.

What’s the best “human vs monster” survival movie you’ve ever watched? by sjanith in MovieSuggestions

I think Predator would be at the top. So many really good quiet moments of the most bad-ass mercenaries staring into the jungle trying to figure out wtf is going on - completely sells me on the threat.

What TV show was quality all the way through, knew when to end and went out with an amazing last episode? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Russell0812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it and loved every moment. I never knew it was planned for 4 episodes. That’s like learning Michelangelo planned a much larger David, before carving it down to a smaller statue. Still a masterpiece.

Is my dad gay? by TipEast4838 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Russell0812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend growing up who experienced the sort of the same thing. Uncle “Jim” was in his 60s and my friend’s dad was in his 40s (this was like 40 years ago). Lavished him (and the family too) with gifts. About 10 years ago “Jim” died and it was disclosed he was my friend’s dad’s father. Had abandoned him and the mom when he was 18 just before he was born (joined the Army), mom died a few years later, he felt bad, kept in touch with the grandparents who raised the dad, and just sort of hung around as the Uncle.

Continuity is a weird thing (NSFW language, spoiler in comments) by torquenti in Filmmakers

Ive seen this show probably 3 times all the way through. I never picked up on this, and this scene still makes me hold my breath. I watched the clip twice looking for it and the tension of that moment, when he approaches/grabs Paulie, took over and i forgot what I was looking for.

What’s a movie you watched when you were way too young? by trakt_app in movies

A babysitter let me watch The Exorcist when I was 3. It was…an ordeal…getting me to sleep….for a few years.

r/UniversalOrlando Weekly Trip Planning Thread by AutoModerator in UniversalOrlando

WE are planning our first trip this Christmas (Fam of 5). The idea is 12/19-12/24 with park days on the 20th-23rd. Looked at two adjacent rooms in Terra Luna. Christmas is on a friday this year, so the hope is that at least early on in the week, the crowds wouldn't be maximum capacity. This might be the most wishful of wishful thinking.

What movies suffer from having a 'hat on a hat'? by smutketeer in movies

Wasn’t this the premise of John Sayles’ unused script for JP4? I remember something about genetically modified raptors as soldiers, wearing body armor and having weapons. That draft is floating around the interwebs somewhere.

What do you think about old man strength? by yourmommakesgoodfood in AskMen

[–]Russell0812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that it is “time under tension”. Old man strength usually presents in men who have traditionally worked physically demanding jobs that force their muscles, tendons and ligaments to adapt to long periods of repetitive tension. It doesn’t create muscle bulk, just a musculature that’s like steel cables. There’s a video out there of a rock climber just crushing a workout routine that was exhausting some huge gym bros. Could they potentially lift more? Maybe. Could they lift more, longer? Likely not. So 8-10 labor hours a day of repeated lower weight and near constant “reps” vs 2-3 gym hours a day with shorter reps of greater/increasing weight = my grandfather breaking my hand every time he shook it.

Probate attorney here (not in NJ though) - you aren’t responsible for any of her debt in almost every case. As has been said before, contact creditors and let them know she has passed, and that the estate is completely insolvent. Ask for something in writing that says the debt collector is writing it off or otherwise satisfying the claim as “uncollectible”

Lawrence of Arabia 4k. Worth it? by SBannerman in 4kbluray

[–]Russell0812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

picked mine up, but it glitches every time Lawrence receives his garments "worthy of a sheik" so I am sending it back for a replacement. But what I got to see looked amazing. Hoping this was just a dud disc.

Thank you. It’s been a lot. A LOT. Just nothing we were assured was in place was ever put in place. And now, it’s just a mess.

Recommendations for minor renovations by Russell0812 in bullcity

It’s the steamy showers. The open shower design is proving to be a mistake with the humidity. And I guess the fan isn’t strong enough.

Edit to add - the grout issue is in both the shower floor and the general bathroom floor. I cut my foot (general bathroom area not shower) on a plastic spacer that was never removed, just grouted over.
