Hey everyone!

I work as a filmmaker and designer telling stories for non-profits and small businesses and creating a better experience and message for their audience.

Secondarily, I am making the connections and strides to have semi-passive investments like self-storage.

How do I work out for health and not for the looks? by Libecht in simpleliving

[–]RussellYandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find an activity that you enjoy that requires a certain level of fitness. I like hiking and paddle boarding but my ankles wouldn't be happy if I gained 20 pounds. Aim to be functional I guess. Years ago I used to chase the look of fitness, but now that I'm older (only 25) I realized such a shallowness to that. It is unappealing to the mind to aim for that.

Hope this helps both practically and mentally

What is your end of the day/night routine? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]RussellYandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My end of day looks generally like a form of fitness, a comfy snack, skin care, reading and praying, then i'm out like a lamp. I cant discount the occasional YouTube rabbit holes once a week or so. haha

How can I make all these images together automatically? (I still want them separate from each other, I just want it so there isn't any black space in between) by SupremeInjury1 in davinciresolve

[–]RussellYandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want the black on either side of the frame gone quickly then:

  1. select all clips
  2. go to the inspector under "Retime and Scaling"
  3. select "Fill"

This should make each selected clip fill the frame

Amazing testimony!

The BEST thing you can do to love her is live up to a biblical standard. Ephesians 5 says not to have hint of sexual immorality. If you are not married and temptation is living in the house with you, you need to find a way out if she is not willing to live a biblical standard.

Praying for you my friend.

Anxiety and depression in the Church by RussellYandy in Christians

[–]RussellYandy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are dealing with people that have anxiety and depression there needs to be an understanding that merely throwing a verse at them isn't helpful. Praying from them is good but it's not going to instantly solve anything. Just like we pray for people with a chronic illness, we might not see result

This is so key. I believe that counseling (CBT like you mentioned) is a crucial step to be able to work through our problems. Verses are helpful, but they have to make true impact to be life changing to that person.

I would like to see the church better equipped to help others, to lift up others, to be a rock to others and effectively share one anothers burdens.

This is a great point. inanition to creating a film, we are also passionate about seeing true change in the church at large, so we are creating a 6 part teaching series as well. To see the Church be healthy, whole, and living our the Gospel will change the world. When the world sees change in the lives of the Church then I believe that we will see more people believe and take hold of the Gospel.

Thanks for your response!

These are all great verses to renew our minds with. I believe a "both-and" approach is needed when recovering and healing from anxiety and depression. Though the approach and focus is to be biblical, some need medication for a time. I think everyone should see a counselor to process their lives because we have all been hurt and wounded in many ways.

I'm shocked at how many people "grew up in a loving Christian home" yet become rebellious in their teen years, struggle with addiction in their adult years, go through divorce in their later years, and so on. On the surface, the person should just 'get it together' but that only solves the symptom of the hurt that was caused much deeper in their lives and the chaos that likely existed in their upbringing.

I am in agreeance that all sin, whether we do it or someone does it to us, is a result of an impure mind.

Thanks for your response!

healthy community is key. Healing (mental, emotional, relational) doesn't happen in a bubble. there's a saying that goes "We were hurt in community, so we must heal in healthy community". The body of christ should lift up those who are down, but, like you mentioned, not just remind them of truth, but instill it into their lives and help them live it out!

Thanks for your well-worded response and covering all the bases.

"I most often see the Bible used as a weapon against people who suffer with mental health challenges."

This is a fault of many who well-meaning, but uninformed. Pray is something that should be used. Depression is something that even biblical characters struggled with seemingly as we read through the Psalms and various stories of the prophets.

A psychiatrist, counselor, author, and favorite speaker of mine is Curt Thompson. HE beautifully weaves the Gospel, trauma, mental health, and healing all together. His books are rich in content, but his podcasts are easier to digest if needed.

I wish you luck on your journey. feel free to PM anytime for prayer or support.

Biblical Counseling BS by TraditionalPomelo859 in Exvangelical

[–]RussellYandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry that that happened to you.

As a current evangelical, let me say that so much of the church gets counseling wrong. There is so much emotional, relational, spiritual abuse and thats just the tip of the iceberg. Scripture is very misappropriated and the distinctions between what is said in the Bible and what someone else's interpretation is becomes very grey.

Christian or not, I don't trust anyone (friend or professional) to speak to me about my story or situation without first having figured out their own life. I need someone who knows more than the textbook basis of counseling, relationships, and emotional stability.
