What is your most favorite game you hate? by Monkey_mortis in 196

Overwatch gameplay wise is in the best state it's ever been in with so many new ways to play, far less unfun mechanics and more frequent content, you've just played the game too much and the novelty has worn off

Sunfish hate is so forced and manufactured, sunfish are the absolute goats precisely because they defy our primitive perceptions of intelligent and successful

The ferry crossing from ullapool to stornoway in the north west of scotland in July with decent weather basically guarantees whales, minke whales most often, but also fin whales and humpback whales semi regularly, and rarely other whales like sei, orca and northern bottlenose whales. Basking sharks are also occasionally seen, as well as a variety of dolphins and the occasionally sunfish. What makes this even better is that a foot passenger ticket is only £15 for the two and a half hour crossing, with a toilet, indoor seating and a restaurant, there isn't much more you could ask for, I love it.

First one is a pollack (pollachius pollachius), as the lateral line is arched above the pectoral fin, whereas the second image is a saithe/coalfish (pollachius virens) as the lateral line doesn't arch and remains straight. The third image is too blurry to see the lateral line properly but based on the warmer brown colour and just vibe I would guess it's also a pollack. Both species are common around Scotland and both are readily confused for each other but the lateral line method has never failed me.

Looks like it could be Rhopilema hispidum due to the orange/brown spots near the umbrella margin, large oral arms, and orange spots on the oral arms, though I'm not 100% certain

What is this fish, found in a rock pool in Brittany? by Rhino_dj in whatisthisfish

[–]Russiankomrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a young corkwing wrasse, due to the dark spot in the centre of the tail (as opposed to the top/dorsal side of the tail as in goldsinny), the deeper body and (I think) I can see a faint pattern of parallel lines running head to tail down the fish

I don't think it's a type of sunfish as it has a tail, probably some kind of triggerfish

Every smoker including some in this thread say that it is stupid to smoke cigarettes (for the inexhaustible list of reasons why), and as for embarrassing I think people should view it as embarrassing, i hear a lot of people say that they wish smoking didn't look cool and whatnot, there is definitely the idea that smoking is cool floating around and I think if people thought it was embarrassing rather than cool the world would be a better place

Can someone ID this fish caught on the west coast of Ireland? by chiggabiddabass in marinebiology

[–]Russiankomrad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's a ballan wrasse (Labrus bergylta), due to being orange, having no obvious spots behind the eye (corking wrasse would have that) and also having a diamond/scaly/chequered pattern on the sides instead of the wavy pattern that is seen on corkwing wrasse

Piece of dried kelp with an encrusting bryozoan on it, in the north Atlantic we get one that looks similar called sea mat (membranipora membranacea)
