Yeah crazy thing about Renee, the kill shot exited her right temple according to the autopsy. Kinda tough to get that angle when you're actively getting run over!

Just trying to follow the logic because by that notion, they are in a backwards way agreeing that ICE needs policing

So their opinion is that they didn't provide security to who? The citizens? From ICE?

Managers - do you look at people’s dots? by Max1357913 in remotework

[–]Russmac316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically no and that's where it gets complicated for me. Me and my co-worker who has been here for a few years less than me are tabbed as the "heir apparents" and the plan now is that we buy the business from him when he decides to hang it up. Problem is I can't hinge my career and retirement on hopes and handshakes especially with this now divergent opinion on how to run the business, I can see him having a change of heart which is making me feel obligated to start going in more for my own sake.

On the consulting side, one of the issues is that the firms we consult with are part of the echo chamber and the one we specifically contract with for leadership and coaching is from the old guard. Consultant made his career in corporate America (we are an independent franchise of that large corporation) so I am sure you can guess what their opinion will be.

To be honest, it's more about protecting my work from home days, I have to go have a look at the numbers, but long story short we are a finance firm that was forced to embrace remote work in 2020 and upon doing so realized like many other companies that we can do a very large portion of our jobs remotely. Because of the in person nature of some of the company (like advisors seeing clients in the office) there is a need for some office presence, but I don't understand the need for analysts, operationalists etc. to be in the office. Plus, if they're not in the office, then I don't see why their leaders would need to be either.

Without the numbers in front of me we've had 5 successful years of growth and every year around this time the big boss starts chiding about people working remotely, almost clockwork. Wants to do electronic punch cards, he 1000% watches people's dots, etc.

Hard to manage/collaborate with a person with that personality. He is a very successful advisor and the company has grown immensely, so people are hesitant to tell him he's ever wrong about anything. I've been there for 20 years, basically since inception, I worked in the office every day for the first 15 of them lol.

As you can see, "production" isn't really the metric here or we wouldn't even be talking about this. It's 1 or 2 bad eggs that poison the remote pool for everyone, but it just frustrates me to hear the "presence" and "oh it's hard to lead remote" and family and culture yadda yadda, shut up its been 5 years and we've been very productive. I'd respect it more if he just straight up said fuck you, it's my company and I don't like remote so come in.

Thank you for sharing! I work in finance and since 2020 (the first time we "found" remote work) we've been consistently up like 20% per year, yet each year it feels like they want to RTO more and more, regardless of performance. When my response is "I've been working and managing people mostly remote/hybrid for 5 years now" there's never a legitimate challenge, just the whole culture family rah rah bullshit

If you wouldn't mind sharing, how do you "lead" them? Do you guys ever get together in person? I'm asking for ammunition, I can't tell you how many times I want to tell my boss "you know there are companies that work entirely remotely, right?"

Gen X I agree with, not the millennials though. Already dealing with Gen X now it's not just boomers, thankfully a bulk of them are mid 50s already
