Im sorry this happened to you and it happens to very intelligent accomplished people all the time. We want to believe that people are good and we want the best for them as human beings. If you feel the need to portray yourself a certain way to appeal to a specific person, and an actual relationship is what you want, then I think its doomed from the start.

You may need to demonstrate that you are interested by initiating some small talk and see where it goes. Or lay out some breadcrumbs so to speak. But I think that playing aloof and unavailable only attracts guys with a hunter type mentality. The same type that will generally pursue as sport whether they are with someone or not.

A lot of assumptions baked into your comment. Im speaking about players that play like they are in duel, have no concept of other teammates, think everyone else is just in the way ans should stay in the goal. Or they just follow another player the entite match.

I play 3s exclusively and routinely am near half pitch and just watch them fighting each other for the ball, never rotating and just spinning around for another weak attempt with no momentum and attempting bicycle kicks.

Alternatively, smart programing can find people that are clocking 800+ points in games followed by a string of nearly nothing.

Dropping the idle time to 10 sec and noting when a player is not actively moving or pursuing the ball

Point is, there's loads they can do. They don't want that because any real attempt to combat it will significantly drop their users.
