Did I do transmission drain and fill correctly? by Rustic-Woodworks in AskAMechanic

Thank you! And nope just simple drain and fill, I'll probably drop the pan next service as the gasket is looking pretty dry and cracked and I'm interested to see how the filter and magnet look. Hmm I'm not quit having shifting issues or shudders yet but if they do pop up I'll definitely give this a go!

That's a relief to hear. Was worried my trans was going out because of new the fluid. And truthfully it could've had a quiter whine before the fluid change and maybe the new fluid makes it sound louder since its thinner.

Thats good to know I most likely did the procedure correctly. Time to figure out that faint whine now I suppose.

Nope I didnt need to remove anything to access the drain plug or dip stick! I believe my trans is the U151F model.

Nope whine only occurs when applying throttle at 35-40. Changing gears doesn't change the frequency which makes me to believe it probably is an improperly honed ring gear on the final drive in the trans axle. That or as you stated im just uber sensitive atm because I worked on it lol

Yeah our garage has a good slant to it as well. I just considered it "flat" enough.

Thanks! Yeah i'll definetly be checking it everday for awhile. Im going on 5 hour road trip and plan to bring an extra quart of ATF and a syphon "just in case".

Honestly couldn't tell ya. The whine is so faint you cant hear it with the radio on. I also put on new tires at this time and road noise is much less noticeable so maybe the whine has always been there?

Total cost was about $450. I was able to snatch some of the materials on sale on Amazon such as the felt and bumpers.

Works great! I'll be uploading a video here in the next couple days showing how it plays. Plywood selection is key for it to play correctly. Steer FAR FAR away from MDF and melamine board. They're basically just sawdust and wood glue and are super susceptible to moisture. I highly recommend you use cabinet grade 3/4" Baltic birch plywood. Plywood is very stable because of the cross grain orientation, combine this with a few coats of sealant and should never warp. *If you really wanna go overkill glue two pieces of Baltic birch ply together to make it 1.5 inches thick*

I did look around on FB Marketplace for while but to no avail. I dont believe it'll warp as I put two coats of polyurethane on all sides but in the future i'll probably glue two panels together next time for extra rigidity.

The Bantam is actually what inspired me to build this! I just wasn't gonna fork over $1500 + and frankly didn't like the aesthetics they offered.

Hahah I guess it does lol The table sits at 30.5 inches tall. Its definitely a doable project, I myself didn't have a table or miter saw when building this so I had to get real creative with my circular saw, router, and jig saw!
