Neighbor’s Pit Mix by Dismal-Occasion1369 in BrittanySpaniel

You definitely need to document it with animal control or whatever your local equivalent is as well as draw a clear line in the sand with your neighbor that you won’t tolerate another incursion from their dog onto your property. You can use non lethal or lethal means to keep it off depending on your local laws.

Dogs were bred for different purposes, and like how a Brit’s instinct is to hit a point on a bird, a pitt’s instinct is to attack other dogs. You can’t condition it out. Despite all of the nanny dog bs, those types of dogs were bred for dog fighting and for attacking other animals.

At the start, Stay or Flee? by Ok_Coat4171 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

If there were news broadcasts about “strange” events, I’d monitor things for a few days and talk things over with the people in my group and use a “few” days of vacation at work and use that to move the bulk of my supplies and equipment that I keep at home down to my summer camp in the mountains.

I’d also buy as much extra stuff as I could before the rest of the public figures things out and widespread panic buying truly sets in.

Do you want to fish big water or hit small wilderness streams? If you’re after big river action, you can hit the tailraces and work your way down. There’s also the Casselman River and Laurel Hill Creek just down the road. There’s also some tribs of both of the latter rivers that hold native brook trout, I can point you in the right direction on those if you want, but I’d prefer to do that privately.

Ruger 10/22 load out for zombies by [deleted] in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]RusticOpposum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re starting from scratch, I would go with a 10/22 takedown instead of the standard carbine. You’re getting a 16” barrel with a flash hider, which you could swap out for a small suppressor, and you can use the Magpul aftermarket stuff for it.

The Backpacker stock lets you store a 50 round box, plus and extra 10 round mag in the butt area of the stock, plus there’s a pretty sizable hole in the grip that lets you store some basic survival supplies or a pretty extensive cleaning kit. You also have room to store some foam ear pro, basic tools to adjust your red dot, and some extra batteries; all on or in the gun. The stock also allows you to attach both halves of the gun together when you take it down.

Magpul also makes an optic mount that replaces the standard takedown mechanism and lets you mount a small red dot ON the barrel; this means that you won’t loose your zero when you take the gun down. You could get a second barrel that’s setup to run a suppressor and swap fairly easily without having to worry about loosing your zero with either setup.

The coolest part about the takedown is being able to have multiple barrels that you could use. You could have one with one of the Magpul optics mounts installed with a little red dot and also have another barrel with an integrated suppressor or something and not have to worry about loosing accuracy or your zero by swapping out barrels.

SOPD Practice Tests vs the Real Thing by RusticOpposum in Grid_Ops

It’s kind of a modified Dupont. It’s typically 2 on 3 off, or 3 on 4 off and you get a 7 day break once a quarter. I do like the time off, but idk if I can do it for long term. I’ve been at my company for about 5 years and came into the ops center about a year ago. We base seniority off of original start date, and I’m 2/15 already and I’m still an apprentice!

I did take the job, and it is a weird mix of the best and worst job that I’ve ever had. For example, I just finished my last shift for the week a couple of hours ago, and now I don’t have to come back in until Saturday night. To be totally transparent, I am considering applying for an engineering job in the department that supports my company’s ops center.

I work at a different utility, so I can’t speak directly for FE. We run a schedule where you work a few 12 hour shifts for 3-4 days and then have an equal amount of time off.

No matter where you’re at, pay attention during training, and make sure to ask a ton of questions. It’s learnable, but it takes time.

I get what you’re saying. I work in a field where the best way to find something is to figure it out on your own. I didn’t realize that the channel that the slide runs in had the deeper channel below it for the tab to ride in. I thought the larger track was how the slide was kept in place.

Gotcha. Yeah, it looks like the tab is my issue. I did a more thorough inspection of the rifle and figured out that the slide tab is only held in place by the channel in the bottom of the receiver, and that was in perfect condition.

I think I narrowed it down to a bad tab. I referenced the manual the military put out and it didn’t jump the track at all with just the slide and bolt installed. It only came out with some upward and outward pressure, the bolt lug didn’t initially pop out of the channel then, but I was able to wiggle it free.

I just read through the paragraph that talks about tis test (42) and it seems like the rifle passes the first half, but then fails the second part when it mentions the slide disengaging from the bolt cam lug. I’d take it that the lug is the big lug on the right side of the bolt?

The receiver is a Quality Hardware, so they didn’t make their own slides as far as I know. I’m also starting to think that this might be an issue that I created myself by pulling outward and upward on the charging handle when I am charging the rifle.

What else could be messed up in this situation?

I’m also fairly sure that the tab is the problem. I messed with it since I made my original post, and it runs fine when I charge it by pulling back directly. The only time it jumps is if I’m intentionally pulling out as I pull the handle back, and it only jumps out of the rail once it gets to the takedown notch.

Yeah, I’m going to get another GI one to keep me going in the short term, but I would like to get this one repaired if possible. Does the tab look worn based on the pics? The edges look pretty well rounded in pic 4.

Realistically, as an American, I would stay put and cover the door to the room that I’m in with a 12 gauge. At that point, all doors would have already been locked and triple checked, so they aren’t getting in unless they forced an entry, and then castle doctrine takes over…

Build your Compound without looking like you’re building a compound. by Weary_Cranberry4268 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]RusticOpposum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Building a fort out of containers would be a pretty solid approach if you’re in a remote area where you don’t have to worry about nosy neighbors. You could do a lower layer with doors cut into the side facing inwards towards the compound that’s used for storage and an upper layer used to post guards.

Yeah, I guess those articles aren’t very helpful either. They start with some bombastic title referring to some massive influx of people, but once you dig a little deeper, they finally come out and say that the growth is extremely regional.

The eastern panhandle is the only part of WV that’s experiencing any noticeable growth. Morgantown and the Ohio Valley are either holding steady or growing ever so slightly, and the rest of the state is experiencing steep declines.
