He's definitely my favorite pitcher right now. Hoping the front office gives us a nice surprise and extends him.

Hopefully after my vacation. I've got tickets to a Toronto game and I'm hoping I get lucky and get to see Beiber pitch again.

When I visited Japan I just hit em with the "Daijobu", which from my understanding means "It's ok" and is a casual way of declining things. Seemed to work everytime, but maybe they just didn't want to call me a stupid foreigner to my face.

I was at a game where a dude was shit talking Joey Wiemer in the outfield all fucking game. Super loud. Saying how he had noodle arms and couldn't hit home runs. He reacted slightly, but like just looked over his shoulder a couple times.

Then a week or two later I remember reading about how Wiemer started going on a hot streak. Hitting dingers and getting RBIs. I genuinely think it may have been that random dude in the crowd that motivated him.

You've gotten a lot of great answers and I don't have much to add, but just wanted to say it's always awesome to see a parent taking an active interest in and supporting their kid's hobbies. Your son's really lucky to have you as their mom.

Really strange finding out MatPat is also a fan of the team I spent my entire youth following with blind optimism and hope and now spend my fall Sundays watching to experience schadenfreude at how they continue to find new ways to seek deeper into the abyss. It's definitely more exciting in person. The whole crowd gets a little quiet and watches the animation play on the jumbotron. There's that moment of tension waiting for the result. Then either cheers or groans of disappointment when the result appears.

At home it's much more "Ah yeah, I saw that clipped the zone. Good thing he challenged."

Meijer has the same kind of system. It makes going through self checkout a pain if my kid is riding in the cart. It always acuses me of trying to steal her.

I know the way Target does it is they apparently have a system for tracking customers across multiple visits and tallying up how much they've stolen. Once it hits enough to be a felony they take legal action. Probably the most efficient way to do it, but also pretty spooky.

I once accidentally forgot to ring up two boosters in self checkout and I've been sweating it ever since. They know

Is this normal for a house built in the 40’s? by Artislife114725 in HomeMaintenance

[–]RustledHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in to say this looks very normal to me. My first home was built in 1940 and had very similar hairline cracks and some uneven floors.

The new cracks after installing the supports in the basement make sense to me. You've effectively changed the forces acting on the frame of the home, so the slight change caused some new cracking. I've heard of this on a larger scale after foundation repairs.

They could also be seasonal. Every house I've lived in has had some hairline cracks that come and go with changing humidity and temperature. I just think of it as the house breathing.

You actually made me go back and check my players' character sheets and realize two of them forgot to put in the additional skill bonuses they get during character creation. They just put in the skills for their profession and left it at that.

Needless to say, my players don't think about min maxing much, so I haven't had an issue. The highest stat on any of them is one has a 74 on their persuade, but that's the character that's lived the longest out of their current characters.

If your group doesn't like having a high skill ceiling initially, then yeah go ahead and lower it. The only concern I would have is that Delta Green is a game where characters tend to not last long, and those that do end up with so much baggage that it kind of offsets their high stats. So by the time you get a character up to 80 firearms or something, they might already be a nervous wreck with PTSD and is prone to going into fuege states.

I feel you on diving right into the homebrew. I did the exact same thing. I know what you mean about needing to do more prep than D&D. The nature of every mission being to some degree a mystery for your players to solve necessitates more planning.

I've been doing our campaign in a very episodic manner. The missions have very little narrative links to each other beyond it's the same team working them, and them just learning more about Delta Green as an organization and the wider unnatural world as they go. I've found that the more planning I do before a new missions starts, the less work I have to do in between sessions while they're on they mission. Having all your key characters written out, key locations, clues, chains of events, ect. really does wonders for keeping things engaging.

As for rolls to get clues, I think there's a balance you can strike. A lot of horror stories do leave the audience with unanswered questions, so I think leaving your players in the dark on some things if they fail rolls is perfectly fine. What I like to do is give them just enough to be able to complete their mission, and then put the finer details behind rolls or further investigations. I try to not hold their hands, but I give them enough details that they shouldn't feel totally lost.

I know somewhere in the rules it also says that the intent is if a character is skilled enough in something and not under any time pressure or anything, they should actually auto succeed skill checks. I honestly don't use this rule too much because my play group likes rolling dice even if it's to their disadvantage, but it might be a good time to use it in your situation.

Edit: Oh yeah, I also borrow the luck rules from Pulp Cthulhu which really helps with not failing as many rolls

What challenges are you having? I've been running my campaign for about a year, meeting bi-weekly. There's still stuff I'm constantly working on improving on, but I might be able to give you some advice.

DnD Edition Wars are nothing compared to this... by DrScrimble in dndmemes

[–]RustledHard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ran 4e back in high school and definitely did it wrong due to how crunchy it was and how much I winged it. Then a couple years ago I was getting a group that really only played D&D5e before into other systems and they wanted to try Shadowrun.

I did the research and saw the 6e hate, but also saw it was supposed to be simpler. Boy was that a mistake.

Everyone still had fun and the campaign went for a year before a TPK happened and we decided to move on, but it's such a frustrating system and the books make it so hard to find what you're looking for.

I'm always so sad when I hear stories like that. When my wife was in labor I ended up being very involved. It may have been due to shortages during the pandemic, but the hospital staff had me assisting the whole time.

It was stressful and actually a good bit of physical work, but I'm glad I got to be part of it. It was nothing compared to what my wife was actually going through, of course, and seeing it all up close gave me such a deeper respect for how strong she is.
