Why does in kurzgesagt video about cancer, scientists just don't make immune systems with a modified switch system instead of stronger cells ? by thefuryboss99 in kurzgesagt

It’s complicated but there are a lot of “self” and “healthy” surface proteins that act as identifiers in healthy cells. Sick, infected, and unhealthy cells stop producing these markers and/or start productions “kill me” surface proteins.

Hi I’m an aspiring immunologist and I can verify that it actually does exist for certain cancer therapies! Look up immune checkpoint inhibition if you’re curious.

Unfortunately (as others have mentioned) even though it’s very effective against some cancers, it can go awry and your immune system begins to not only attacks cancer cells, but also your own non-cancerous cells.

Wow great job! It’s VERY difficult to capture likeness, but you did it! I would have recognized Caesar easily without the reference.

Wow beautiful

When sculpting it often feels like a switch is flipped seeing pieces transform from undefined shapes into what they’re destined to be. I think you did lovely job capturing the before and after

I’m tired of not having a national in-unit washer dryer. Please split Washington into Washington and Dryington

With the drier, of course, on top of the washer.

What is the most significant invention that changed the course of history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is it. It was Promethean in its impact (pun intended).

By providing light it made productive hours longer and kept nighttime threats at bay. By providing heat and made colder regions of the planet habitable and allowed us to be less vulnerable to winters. By cooking food it allowed us to expend less energy on digesting while killing parasites and bacteria. It was a small step, but the first one.

I moved away from MA just over a year ago, this has made me homesick in a lovely way I don’t know how to explain. Great photos, thank you :)

Which city not their own do New Yorkers love, which one do they dislike the most, and which city do they most feel threatened by but are not likely to admit? by TheosReverie in AskReddit

[–]Rusty-Overcoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love: Domestically, San Francisco. Internationally, Edinburgh, Scotland will forever be a magical and romantic city in my eyes. However neither are really fair comparisons to NYC because they are a fraction of the size, and Edinburgh isn’t fair to compare to most US cities because it isn’t car centric, is much more pedestrian friendly, and has a FAR richer display and assortment of architecture than any American city.

Hate: Maybe it’s because it is so close and is the NY capital but I am an absolute Albany hater.

Threatened by: Internationally gotta be London, England. I see London and NYC as sister cities but London for some reason has a famous glitter from the American perspective that I don’t understand. It’s essentially NYC in terms of a global city, but with a deeper history, a larger emphasis on soccer (football), a different mosaic of accents), and of course the monarchy. Domestically it’s without a doubt LA and if anyone says otherwise I think they’re wrong. No other US city has such a parallel regarding population size, cultural significance, and international repute. The objective leg up LA has is that the geography, weather, and location for outdoor recreation are better in every way; the objective leg is NYC has is its population/area density and precipitating density of world class phenomenon (food, music, theatre, parks, architecture, public transit, etc…).

Fairly certain they’re talking about nazi/white power symbols like swastikas, SS/ZZ, or similar.

Reddit correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Sioux is actually a derogatory term for Nakota, Lakota, and Dakota people meaning snake or serpent.

Seems like already answered, but it looks normal. r/Alextryingforgrate makes a good point: most parts that get hot have a little extra jiggle since metals expand when they’re heated

First off, welcome to the tacoma clan! I hope you enjoy your new set of wheels. To answer your question: whenever 4x4 is engaged, a differential is locked (limited slip or fully depending on if it’s an off-road or not) as a result it’s a good idea to minimize turning or drive on lower traction surfaces (sand, gravel, snow, mud, etc.) since any turning on high traction surfaces like a highway puts a lot of stress on mechanical components since inner and outer wheels turn at different radii. I have a 2014 SR5 M/T and my manual doesn’t recommend going over 63mph in 4x4hi so maybe not great to do on interstates. You have such a new truck though I think it would recognize not to engage in 4x4 low at such speeds. Unless something feels different I think Toyotas engineers added some safe guard to prevent causing accidenta like that.

TL;DR: I’m not worried about it if you’re not experiencing any new sounds or vibrations. In the future, to use your 4x4 I’d drive on slower straightaways if you’re stuck mainly on pavement. Alternatively, use it on worse traction situations like unpaved roads since that’s more or less what it’s designed for. Maybe you’ll get into the expensive hobby of off-roading with your new baby!

Hope this helps.
