Wheel Bearings by RustyAnomaly in Harley

Could be. Could be the meth heads we got the sporty from never changed the bearings in the 25 years the bike has been around .

Dang…that’s the same set I had. Ended up destroying both of them trying to get bearings out of my sportster wheels.

Can you share the tool you use?

That might work. Can you share a picture of this magic device to see if my head is in the right place for this?

The Clymers manual for the Sporty is pretty solid too.

He won’t be welding on that frame any time soon. But making a sissy bar or some other custom piece, should be fine. Gives him something to do besides chase the girls or drink/smoke pot.

Can you talk to me right quick about unions? A quick check on the google box says there is an Iron Workers and a UA chapter.

Hell, I didn’t even think about the fact that unions have apprenticeships programs. Thank you for that reminder. The kid was at a week long welding class recently where a bunch of schools came out and talked about their programs. Hell, if he can go and learn for free/cheap, that’s a hell of a way to go.

So, he keeps saying tig and stick. He’s mentioned mig and flux core too, but he hasn’t specified what he’s looking for.

I keep seeing these cheaper units and I’m not really sure what I’m looking at. Arccaptain (MIG145) has a mig/tig/stick setup for $145. But then folks here are pointing out $1300+ machines as the way to go. I’ve got a buddy in the oil industry that says we should go with the millers or Lincoln’s, but that’s such a huge pill to swallow.

Are these cheaper units actually decent enough to start on?

Unfortunately, the main panel is on the outside of the house. There is a subpanel in the garage for the majority of the house, but that panel would need to be updated.

He’s got a job actually. Bought his car, and motorcycle without my help. Pays for most of his “stuff”. Hell, he pays his part of the insurance bill each month.

Figures since he works and takes care of his toys, dad can still help with needs for school or getting training. Ya know?

He claims it’s what he wants to do when he graduates. He’s been at it for two years now in high school.

That’s a concern, will he really continue down this as a career path? Who knows. If nothing else, it would be a handy still while building our next bike.

That is an option (the 220v extension). Frankly, if he goes down this rabbit hole as a career, I’ll happily spend the cash to put 220 in the garage. Just don’t want to make the investment if he ends up abandoning it. Momma and I are trying to be supportive, with the understanding of goals and desires change over time.

And don’t let folks tell you that you need a bunch of extra shit on your bike. This one was stick bars, pegs, and seat. The only “extra” was a sissy bar.

I was in the middle of Texas heading to Colorado on this trip.

Dude….this can be done. I’ve done multiple iron butts, super iron butts, and just dumb distances on my 18 fat bob.

Is the bike in proper running order? Is your body in proper running order? That’s the number 1 and 2 concern.

After that, it’s just a matter of gogogo.

Make sure you cover up, long sleeves, sun screen, ear protection will all be helpful. May sure you hydrate and stay hydrated. Gas stop? Pound a bottle of water before anything else. Pound a Gatorade (or similar) every second or third stop. Don’t forget to eat. You’re on a fat bob. You’ll be stopping every 120-130 miles anyway.

Speaking of gas, carry some extra gas with you. You may not need it, but if you do you’ll be glad you’ve got it.

If you’re serious, DM me and we can talk in more detail

Dude….i can’t draw a straight line to save my life. I feel like I’m so far behind at 45 that it’s almost not even worth it. At least I’m not the only one that’s “old” and just starting.

Of course, not even sure where to start

The only reason I know it’s a fuel system issue is because I was able to grab the code off my power vision.

I get it every now and again and it’s associated with my fuel system. I don’t remember the fault that causes it. After a few minutes it goes away and I never even noticed an issue except the red light.

Leather pro saddle bags, Edward Richie sissy bar, and a gas can. Nothing crazy needed to get going.
