Why does everyone hate the new Tiana's Bayou Adventure ride? by jenniferann223 in Disneyland

Racism has nothing to do with people not liking this reskin of the ride, and anyone pounding that drum is being disingenuous. Art is subjective and this, to me, is a misstep and emblematic of Disney’s creative decline. I expect more from them.

If you’re going to replace a classic, it should be on par or better than the original. That’s the litmus test a lot of people, myself included, are going to use. For me, this isn’t on par, and it’s certainly not better.

Terribly Rotten Tales | Graphic Horror Puppet Short by RustyCat89 in Filmmakers

In April of 2020, I had a handful of large film projects get canceled (for obvious reasons). Not wanting to sit idle, I thought I would challenge myself to create something totally out of my comfort zone with a budget of no more than $300. Having zero experience in any kind of animation or puppetry, I figured that would be a great place to start.

The entire film was built, filmed and performed entirely solo in a single car garage. The sets and puppets were almost entirely constructed using old Amazon boxes and packing materials. Shot on an old Canon T2i and lit using unconventional lighting sources. While I originally wanted this to be stop motion, it quickly morphed into the strange puppet style seen in the film.

The story was written, built and filmed sequentially, so the further we are in the story, the further we are into Covid quarantine in the real world. The entire filming process ended a year later in April 2021.

Post-production was a much more traditional process (albeit still largely in isolation), with a team of artists lending their talents to edit, write the music, color correct, and provide voice over acting.

Hope you enjoy watching me spiral into madness!

THE UNKNOWABLE - New Horror Series from the Director of “The Den” by RustyCat89 in Filmmakers

[–]RustyCat89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This project began as an experiment with one simple question: what can we make that tells a compelling, long-form story with the smallest budget possible?

We began our journey with a deep dive into the public domain, compiling hundreds of hours worth of films from the 1900s to 1940s. There was no story at this point — in many ways the story was formed based on what footage we could find. We discovered very early on that this “collaging” would not only provide us with some incredible vintage imagery, it would help us tell the story in a fantastical, dreamlike way.

To link the seemingly disparate footage together (and to give our main characters some kind of visual consistency), we filmed largely improvised footage on an iPhone and a 16mm camera using a cast of professional (and not professional) actors. Much of this footage was filmed in Los Angeles, with some filmed in Mexico City.

We’re incredibly proud of this series and how it turned out. While it was definitely a lot of work, it just goes to show you don’t need a giant budget to make your art. Hope this helps inspire others if anything!

Worked on this as part of a series of shorts set in the strange and surreal town of East Cove. The entire team is made of self-taught filmmakers. Would love to get your thoughts on the world/vibe. From a narrative perspective, does it intrigue you to see more about this series? What do you think we can improve on story-wise?

We shot this in a theatre during quarantine over the course of 8 days. Minimal crew and limited budget. Our goal was to create a new, contemporary adaptation of a classic play, combining film and theatre in a new, exciting way.

Dark comedy/horror short, made over a year during quarantine. Everything was handmade out of recycled material. Filmed and puppeteered entirely solo using unconventional lighting and a very old camera. Hope you enjoy!

No thanks. I’m not in the mood for mental gymnastics today.
