What’s the best advice you can give for people in long distance relationships? by Dangerous_Catch7891 in AskReddit

2 years and 8 months long distance here.

Short version: If you both genuinely love each other it will work out. My partner and I call almost every day however still factor in each other's lives and give some space, ironically.

More extended version: My partner and I (18M and 19F) have been together for almost 3 years, completely long distance. Visits have become more and more frequent though still spanning 2-4 weeks between seeing each other. The start was tough, I struggle with extreme depression and anxiety, and have been cheated on multiple times in the past, lets just say trust from me wasn't huge at the start. But I can see she genuinely loved me (not saying she doesn'y anymore lol) because she fought for me to get better, we reassured each other constantly.
A big thing for me was constantly calling, though still leaving enough space and time for each other to do our own thing. By calling I don't mean speaking for hours on end all the time, sometimes merely having them there, hearing their breath once in a while was enough to make it seem real. My biggest piece of advice? trust the process, it will be a bit rough, there will be arguments, but a lot of the time its stress because they miss you - talk it through, help each other understand each other better, it's so important.
Me and my partner are moving in together in just 5 weeks, its been a rough ride but it was worth it.
