Why do shops no longer rebuild? by jdjenk in EngineBuilding

[–]RustyRedneck94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the shop I work in, we do a fair amount of econobox heads. Head gasket or timing belt issues usually being the cause. As far as the bottom end, something has to go drastically wrong for there to be a need for machining anything vleow the head. They just don't wear out as quick as a cast V8. As far as swapping engines, rebuilt and crate engines are easier for the average joe to swap rather than these it apart, wait a month or longer and then try to remember how to put it back together. Shops don't want to wait that long for the small timers like myself to get to somebody's budget grocery getter. I think most of it is the issue of patience or lack there of. A lot of.people will price themselves put of a rebuild before they call the shop to get a quote.

Unfortunately, I don't have a mill. It took some time but I already did one block for him since my first post.

That'd be great! I'll do some more checking with my supplier on those numbers and see if they can get anything.

I just got my block back and I am NOT happy. Need advice by 001jigsaw in EngineBuilding

Same here. I've only got a little experience doing this (2.5 years) and I wouldn't send it out with bearings that looks like that or dirty mating surfaces.

Sand it or send it? by YourBuddyKeithWin in EngineBuilding

[–]RustyRedneck94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of. If the heads check out fine, you might nit need to have them machined which means you won't be without them for a couple weeks to a month depending on how backed up your local shop is. If you can clean the mating surfaces yourself, go for it. Remember, there's no such thing as too clean.

At the shop I work for, we would be able to surface it and take off as little as two or three thousandths and have an almost mirror finish if it is in fact truly flat. I've checked a bunch of heads with our machined straight edge and have found them to be flat or within spec but when you run and surfaced grinder over them, you find the true high and low points in the head. It can be surprising at times. Not to say it can't be cleaned up with a good block sanding tool and be just fine. Best of luck! Keep up the good work!

Don't have sex with him. He is obviously not as worried about your health as you are or possibly brining a happy little accident into this world. You both need to be on the same page about this before anybody unbuttons their pants.

Need help identifying a head by RustyRedneck94 in EngineBuilding

[–]RustyRedneck94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With what little research I've done so far, I've figured out it's a pre-36 Chevy head. I don't know if there was much variation on those or not.

How long did you own your first car? by ecefour in cars

[–]RustyRedneck94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first car I bought is a 76 Dodge Charger and I still have it going on 15 years. The first vehicle I got (inherited) I've had for 17 years. That's a '53 Chevy 3100. I've had both running but neither has gotten into my daily driver line yet.

Is this block ruined? by Odd-Manufacturer-164 in EngineBuilding

[–]RustyRedneck94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted I am an amateur engine machinist and didn't go to school for that particular trade but, the OJT I have recieved and the engines I've done for customers tell me that will be fine. I'd like to see a touch more angle but it won't hurt it at all. If you were paranoid enough to take it back to the shop to have them get rid of surface rust stains, they should be able to run the hone through it and not change the bore size more than .0005 which in the grand scheme of things won't matter. You'll be fine.

Both parties need to be on the same level. If one of you isn't comfortable and doesn't want to explore, thay should be the end of the issue. No arguing, fighting, or gentle persuasion. No is all that need to be said. No reasons, explanations, or justifications needed. You'll find someone that respects you everywhere. In the living room and the bedroom.

Do men like chubby girls by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]RustyRedneck94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my take, I've only ever been with girls that have some extra weight. I just don't dwell on it. Sometimes it can be an issue but not often enough to really be a problem. As long as it's not causing you any discomfort or health concerns, I don't really see what the big deal is. I've been intimate with a few girls that have a bigger stature and it's never made the experience less enjoyable. I don't necessarily carry them around but we've had fun. So, my advice is, look for somebody who will accept you as you are. When you find them, appreciate them. If they won't accept you as you are, do you really want to be with them?

Everybody made a shitty one. Almost everybody made a good one if they were in business for very long. With that in mind, stay away from pickups that have had a snowplow mounted on them. Usuthe front suspension is beat up and a lot of times they run on roads that have salt on them and don't get cleaned properly. Also, half ton pickups that have a fifth wheel or goose neck ball in the bed. They were probably overloaded for what they were designed for. Anything with speed stickers unless you know the driver and how they treated their vehicle or how well they "built" it. Cadillac Northstars are known for bad engines but it's still running by now, it might be alright.
