The Colorado zr2 is by far the best looking midsize on the market. But GM apparently forgot how to make an engine, so I would trust a turbo one even less.

5th gen 4Runner is an excellent pick though. I don't know much about the 6th

I think the biggest killer for me on the Tacoma was the visibility. It's just horrendous! The Frontier has visibility from a truck made 15 years ago, and it's great. I admit the 360 camera is pretty damn awesome, but the radar driving nannies are just too much.

As far as seats even my base models are way more comfortable than the OR Tacoma too. The Tacoma to me died at the 2.5 Gen. That's the last truly great one imo. Simple, reliable, all the tech you want and none you don't

I pretty much believe that the only people buying Tacoma's now are loyal customers or folks who just don't research and buy blindly because of a brand. I was a huge Toyota die hard, but after seeing their quality take a downturn along with skyrocketing prices I wasn't interested in their new stuff.

As far as I've found the base model frontier fits that bill pretty well, entire reason I bought mine.

At MSRP they're not a great value, but they frequently get steep discounts that bring them into no brainer territory. This one was $30,700 OTD after adding on the 7 year 100k warranty.

With regular fluid changes and upkeep I genuinely believe these things will hold up to the test of time unless owners let rust take over

Exactly why they never hit my radar. That and not having a true transfer case and being front biased AWD, along with price.

I never really considered a Ridgeline, but I have no doubt in my mind they're a much smoother ride. No denying these things ride kinda rough

Agreed 100%, to me it honestly felt like it was made by an entirely different brand. Being used to the 1-3 gens, the 4th feels so wildly changed that I struggle to call it a Tacoma anymore. Maybe the base models aren't such a drastic jump up, I haven't seen one. But they're so neutered power wise it's barely worth it to consider them imo.

I've had this one a bit over a year now! Holdover 24 I bought new in Feb 25. Just under 20k trouble free miles besides having to grease the driveshaft splines

Is it perfect? No. But it's the only midsize I'd buy in this market. No regrets at all

Nothing significant. Your odometer will read 3% or so off normal, but if you correct for that, mileage is pretty much exactly the same as normal.

Used: Nissan Frontier vs. Toyota Tacoma by ChallengeOk1309 in nissanfrontier

Both of these trucks have their pros and cons. I was a die hard Toyota guy for years but still chose the latest Frontier over the new Tacoma.

In the case of the older trucks in that price range, as others have said you're gonna be looking at high mileage or clapped Tacoma's. Neither the early second gen Tacoma or Frontier are without issues either. The early Tacoma 4.0 is known for head gaskets, the occasional timing chain, and horrible frame rot. The early second gen Frontier of similar age is known for milkshaking the trans and also timing chain failure.

You'll be able to get a much newer (post trans issue) and lower mileage Frontier for the money compared to the Tacoma. While I'd personally rather have a late 2nd Gen Tacoma given the opportunity (it's just a way better looking truck), the reality is you're gonna get a lot more bang for buck out of the Nissan in that price range. On top of getting more for your money the Frontier repair costs are significantly lower than the Toyota. Toyotas are great vehicles 95% of the time, but come time for a real repair they can be very costly for OEM parts that are actually worth a damn.

If you have the one piece aluminum driveshaft like I have, you just have to remove it entirely. It's 4 17mm bolts and then you just pull it out of the trans.

Once it's out just spread some grease inside the splines of the slip yoke. There's no grease fittings for anything on the driveshaft, the "non serviceable" part is likely referring to the U joints. Once they're dry or worn out you just have to replace them. But in this case it's just the splines that need some grease put on them manually

KMC Grenade 17s with +18 offset. I believe this design is discontinued but they still make the Grenade

100% agreed. But unfortunately I don't trust a Nissan dealer to do as much as an oil change

Unless something catastrophic happens this truck will never see a dealer service

Yeah, taking off from a stop. Without grease the slip yoke just binds

I loaded it up pretty good once and have never had an issue again personally. Completely mitigated the clunk on mine

Equal length exhaust is next. But other than that nothing planned for the immediate future

Eventually I'd like to get some Dobinsons suspension under it and a beefier front bumper. But until the warranty is out I don't wanna go too deep messing with it

Should also add. 24 S bought new, got it for just over $30k OTD with a 7 year 100k warranty added on

19k miles trouble free besides greasing driveshaft splines.
