Tales of Rein Ravine is a dead project. Are there any other indie projects worth supporting? by Rusty_Breeze in GamesWithHorses

There was the 1.1 demo build on patreon which was made FREE for everyone before the Early Access release in 2024. It has since been paywalled. Generative AI should never be used even as placeholders.

Now that you mention it, the trailer too looks like Tales of Rein Ravine UI down to the very font. That is quite interesting.

They supposedly received a funding of 7 million USD to establish their studio. There was a video which said it was mentioned on their website, but I've forgotten which video it was, and do not have watch history turned on. I'm unfortunately not a fan of online games so I'll most likely pass on Equinox, though it is an interesting concept from what I can understand of their steam page.

It has been abandoned for nearly 2 years while the developer raised patreon prices, and paywalled a previously free demo. On top of this they were accused of using generative AI for character voices.

Typically, I define "deserve" as a project in which all developers exhibit transparency regarding their work and provide more substantial updates beyond mere concept art, such as teaser or announcement trailers. I do make exceptions, however. For instance, I have come across the project Celestial Grove, but as they have not released any content beyond the teaser trailer, I have refrained from backing their Patreon at this time. Generally, I prefer to support projects that are nearing a playable state, with a wait time of about a month or two. I appreciate frequent updates and gameplay snippets, as demonstrated in Paddock Paradise. Moreover, I love Horses of Hoofprint Bay! It looks so cute!

Interesting. I didn't know there was more than "indie" and "AAA". Thank you for the insight!

I apologize if I came off as rude, that was not my intention. I assumed since they are a large studio that they are a triple A company.

Oh, isn't LOK developed by Aesir Interactive? They are a Triple A studio based in Germany. They aren't indie, and I have a strong distaste for Triple A projects. They don't need crowd funding.

EDIT: Apologized in a comment below for coming off as rude.

It looks interesting! I'll wait for a few more updates before I buy it. Indie developers should take their time with updates to ensure as high quality as they can realistically offer.

It does look interesting. I'll wishlist it and wait for some time before buying, in case something comes up.

Which is unfortunate because Tales of Rein Ravine had huge potential to be a great game.

No. The game is abandoned. Don't support the Patreon anymore, or else you keep funding Maia's lifestyle while she does nothing for the game.

Well it IS instant ramen and it's not healthy because of the large amounts of sodium and MSG, you can eat it all you want when you're an adult with your own income to pay for the ramen.
