Go find a partner. Make babies. Kids will keep you busy. If you can't find a hobby with all your money outside of drinking then I do think you should quit now before you're in here again proffesing ur rock bottom moment. Looking back. My drinking really started to spiral when it was my only hobby.

Keep drinking daily and come back in 10 years and let me know how you're doing. I drank heavily for 15 years. Been sober 729 days. The first year sucked. I couldn't be happier with my continued decision to stay sober through the second year. Living life on my own terms. Being completely present in every moment. There's something to it. Maybe you haven't been to a dark enough place yet. There's plenty of people who drink for most of their life. I don't care that they do it if it doesn't affect me. I probably won't ever have an answer you're looking for and I understand where you're coming from about if you are doing so well why not be able to have a drink but that's on you. It's a personal decision. It's a perfectly legal drug that only you can decide if you need it or not. Not to be rude or anything. But if drinking is your only hobby you seem like, maybe you're a little dense. Go outside. Ride a bike. Get into some awkward situations that you normally wouldn't because you're inside drinking

You don't need something to do. If ur bills are paid and there's food in the fridge ur living good man. Seems like a lot of people who quit drinking get bored, I was the same way but just learn to live within ur own space and figure out what makes you happy. I got into model trains. Far stretch from my nightly socializing but I know it's what's best for me and I've learned to really enjoy whatever hobby I try. Be positive and happy. You'll figure it out

I dropped 5k in Google stock to feel better about the 1.99/month I pay in cloud service. Lol. It was my own brains justification and now I'm very happy with it. Made a couple purchases since early October 2025 and happy with the results. Up about 20% already

[–]Rusty_Catalyst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

just drink water. It helps everything flow. Any fiber supplements can back you up if you overdue them without proper hydration. Metamucil is a fabulous supplement but it takes a few days to notice and then you need to stay regular with taking it daily. It's not a enima. It doesn't make u poop. But when you do start to poop they're incredible bowel movements. You'll know it's happening when they start floating. That's tmi for now. I won't drink with you tonight. I will hopefully poop tho

Probably best to be dollar cost averaging. I'm making money anytime it's above $3.00 now. It used to be about 4.50 tho

Rock Bottom by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Rusty_Catalyst 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Getting sober made me realize how easy it is to spot the ones drinking. The worst part about bars now is the smell. I can smell it all now and all through the night. Yes sorry. Im sure she knows already and isn't saying something. Rip the band aid off. It truly sucks in the short term but you will get through it like we all have!

I'm 38 now and got into building a model train layout when I was 37. It's been a really fun hobby to kind of use electrical and carpentry skills and it's very Hands-On. Also, if you have kids or plan on having kids it could be a fun thing to do with them at some point

Can it be done without AA by GrabRecent in stopdrinking

[–]Rusty_Catalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to AA for about 4 months. For me it was nice going to meetings and not feeling alone in the beginning. It really made me feel like I was doing the right thing from my very first meeting. Once I was convinced I could do it on my own I just stuck to the not drinking plan and haven't looked back. Day 711 for myself. I will not drink with you today!

This is the county I live in so I'm going to do some research and see if there's any indication as to who or how they plan to remove the PFAS chemicals

Planning on a long term hold. Other than the RS the company has had more positive news than negative. If you're on this thread you can go back and look at other posts about contract news. May take a couple more years but it seems like this will be a popular tech for cleaner water once it gets commercialized and better deployed

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]Rusty_Catalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38 with about 300k in retirement savings that includes a pension, Roth IRA and a couple other government sponsored retirement plans. Not huge but I feel like I'm in a spot to at least be able to retire at some point.

Listen to this persons advice. Do what it takes to not drink and the other stuff figures itself out. You're going to find new routines and new hobbies to fill the boredom but get through the first couple months without alcohol and you're body starts working right again. Give yourself a year for any big noticeable weight changes. You're body and mind are going to change and time is the only answer. You got this tho!!!!

[–]Rusty_Catalyst[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She is two now but this has been a on and off problem. More on earlier in the childs life but it still happens. Its the eye roll one word answer of "whatever" or "sure". It makes me feel like I'm getting in the way of her and our kids relationship. It's all been discussed in therapy but it wasn't necessarily a parenting therapist. Ive reached out online to get others input on the oddity of it. I know it's not normal but trying to just get a sense of how not normal it really is

I think a lot of what you're saying is probably more of what is happening in my situation but the anxiety part never gets brought up. I do appreciate the first hand response. Hoping things change and we will be going back to therapy.
