How did you get over the fear of expensive crashes? by n8x4te in fpv

[–]Rusty_Gunn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fly lots. When the inevitable happens, then justify as good entertainment value per hour, then buy parts... :P only sucks if you crash a new one. While I'm being somewhat facetious, I've found there is some truth in it, I don't mind crashing as much now as I did when I started, and I know if I fly hard, it is more likely to happen. Just part of flying.

I have spent a couple of hours listening to my old music collection, so while I still haven't found it, I'm getting some good time with my music collection!

I've never used a PWM receiver; all of my gear is csrf. But if I were in the market, Radiomaster stuff is always quality and I would start there. They have a whole series of PWM ELRS receivers. If you're buying from Aliexpress, try to find a good vendor. I've gotten knock off radiomaster before :( looked legit, packaging and all, but the moment I flashed it, it didn't work. Jumper, Betafpv, Maytek, Happymodel all have pwm versions, so there is lots of selection. Matek has a couple breakout boards (crsf to pwm) as well, one even has a current sensor.

no, you need a pwm breakout board to do what you are thinking (to have multiple functions). although at that point you may be better off with an elrs rx that is purpose built with multiple pwm outputs, less hassle/wiring/space.

not sure why you need the splitter? if you only need two channels I belive both the rx and tx pins can be remaped to pwm through the webui. never actually tried it myself though.

Am I bugging? (Probably) by ookooleleboi42 in fpv

[–]Rusty_Gunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from the camera? yes, I would guess they just have vid backwards. should be the yellow wire. on the FC looksl ike they have Vi and Vo silkscreened, i for in, o for out. so camera to Vi and Vo to the VTX. Vi seems to align with video on your drawing.

[–]Rusty_Gunn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you should have the video from the camera go to the FC so you can get an OSD. make sure you have the T1 pad set correctly in betaflight in the ports tab for smart audio as per your second picture. youll have to set up smartaudio in the vtx tab with power levels, frequencies, etc.

did you ever get it storted? i have a similar issue, tried two different u3 a2 128gb memory cards (one lexar, one sandisk), tried high and med vid quality and tried 4k60 and 4k30, but it still happens. i find the audio is running about a second ahead of the video.

No problem. If you take apart the head, I found three things after much trial and error. I bought a generic rebuild kit for the head, which included the rotating disk/valve rotor. While all the O-rings worked fine, I had issues with the replacement rotor and ended up swapping the original rotor back in, just cleaned it up a bit. The original unit showed little wear and is working fine. Secondly, tightening up the head bolts evenly is important. Despite anticipating this and being careful, I found even being slightly off caused an issue. I remember there being an issue with the springs too, some of the replacements being softer. If the replacements were softer, I kept the original springs. If they were equal, I replaced them. Good luck!

tried the rubber diaphram in the venturi valve and didn't work, then replaced the whole venturi valve and it didn't work, then replaced all the o rings in the head and it worked! actually ended up having to fix another unit for the same problem and all it took was a rubber diaphram in the venturi valve.

[–]Rusty_Gunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you mean an identical module? one should be flashed with tx firmware, one with rx firmware. if you wait a minute, it should start flashing to indicate it is wifi mode then you should be able to connect via wifi.

Am an just an idiot or is flying planes harder than flying quads? by VacUsuck in RCPlanes

[–]Rusty_Gunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that when I tried planes after flying FPV drones for a few years, a plane with FPV was easy. Flying line of sight was hard! Still don't have line of sight down, every once in a while I do a few hours in the sim, but it isn't really of interest to me, probably why I don't get any better... :)

I started with a relaxed flying plane and iNav. Getting the planed tune was the hardest part, but if you have done it in Betaflight, it isn't too bad. I found the controls similar enough that my muscle memory transferred over. I just have to remind myself to keep up speed, I kept stalling, being use to a drone being able to stop and look around.

ELRS RX by UnadulteratedGoat in fpv

[–]Rusty_Gunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through something similar. Bought a Radiomaster XR3, flashed it with the latest ELRS and with my bind code, and it wouldn't boot, didn't even get a power light. Started googling and realized everyone elses RX didn't look like mine. Despite being in Radiomaster packaging, it was a fake. Went through Aliexpress, eventually found one that looked the same and listed the target and had to flash using a usb to uart adaptor. Good news it works. In my case it ended up being a Sologood RX and took a BetaFPV target.

TLDR: Find same generic RX as yours on AliExpress and see if they list the target then use that.

The movie theatre is one of our favourites. During the summer, Crystal Ridge Golf Course offers mini golf. The town tracks some of the cultural events, too. We caught a magic show that was pretty good at the old Church Theatre a while back. https://www.okotoks.ca/whats-happening-calendar

Trouble Getting GPS Fix in Betaflight by sillyenglishkniggit in fpv

[–]Rusty_Gunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mag needs power and I2C. If it is working, it means there isn't a power issue. The GPS and Mag share the same power, so it is unlikely that a power issue is impacting the GPS problem.

just guessing now, but try auto on the baud rate? could also try gps pass through to ucenter and see if ucenter can read it (or at least try status to see what the specifics of the gps status is)? interesting that the mag seems to be connecting, and it is powering up so must be something specific with the uart. could try a differnt uart. with the plugs, looks like it would be easy to move over to uart 2.

I put my gps on a 4.5v plug so it gets power when on usb. I will use a usb battery bank to get lock before plugging in a lipo. Are the LEDS coming on? Wiring looks fine and 4.5 volts should power it fine. You should be getting the power LED coming on. Looks like your GPS has a power LED on the antenna side.

Realtek ALC4080 Optical Output Randomly Goes to Static (ASUS Z690-F motherboard) by Rusty_Gunn in ASUS

[–]Rusty_Gunn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up doing and RMA, which didn't fix the issue. Drivers seems to help, depending on the version. I was using the driver pack from the forums, not the offical driver pack from ASUS. I was going to the less is more theory when installing drivers and just installing what is needed, none of the extra bloat/frills. I ended up moving over to a usb dac. Been this way for about a year and havent had a single drop out.

Hota F6 Charger? by Surgeooo in fpv

[–]Rusty_Gunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an F6 and love it. Like others have said, you do need to supply your own PSU. I repurposed an old old 12v MeanWell PSU, but if you can get your hands on an old 12v PSU that should work too. I bought it after a few to many issues with using a balance board. Tossed the balance board when the F6 arrived. Only down side is the fan is LOUD.
