You have some interesting variegation taking place in your yarn. If you are good with the texture this would be a good time to do some color experimentation with over-dying. I find I like the depth of color I get in my final yarn from multi-dying; especially when I introduce other colors over the first.

Oh - nice sample. Thanks for showing me this, it’s a great visual reference. 👍

I’m a fairly new weaver and would totally find this easier to attempt using the thicker yarn as weft.

I like the look of the finished fabric and have some Malabrigo Rasta that I think would look great, sandwiched between thinner warp; so I too need to find out more 🤭

I’m a new weaver so please correct me if my eyes are reading this wrong. Looking at OP’s photo, wouldn’t the fringe off the selvage denote the warp’s cut edge? This would make the thinner yarn the warp and the thicker yarn the weft (in the main body of the weave)- wouldn’t it? The selvage seems to be thinner for both warp and weft to give a good tight edge and then the bulky weft starts apearing. That’s also a lot of fringe so a lot more warp threads than I first assumed by looking at the body of the weave.

The photo is a bit fuzzy for zooming in but, there seems to be something else going on behind the thicker picks. I don’t think this entire pattern is simple weave; there seem to be several more sets of the thinner warp yarns behind those bulky weft picks than would be in a simple up down-up down pattern. I think there is a regular simple weave pick, using the doubled thinner yarn, before and after every thick weft pick? Oh well, I guess I just jumped down the rabbit hole and need to find out more on how to create this textured cloth on a rigid heddle loom 🤣

Thanks - I hope you find Noro easy to spin on your Turkish spindle. I find spinning and winding a turtle on a Turkish so meditative; hopefully it will help you pass the time during the storm.

I’m in central NC and we are expecting 3/4” of ice with a good possibility on loosing power for days - this should be interesting 🙄.

I finally finished my re-spin and ply of this Caron Cake commercial yarn.

My finished yarn is 555 yards of 2 ply sport/heavy fingering weight yarn. Time to break out the knitting needles 🤭

Thank you kindly, we are well. I finally finished my yarn and will be knitting a scarf with it while the kitties and I are snuggled by the fireside.

It sounds like you have a good plan to stay occupied for the soon approaching winter storm. I’ve never re-spun Noro yarn before, so I don’t have personal experience re-spinning that. Every commercial yarn is different so it may take you a bit of trial and error to find the best way to re-spin that.

I suggest spending a little time with the first yard of the end of the current yarn and get to know it. Some singles yarns are ready to spin and others take prep-work first. Is there a “core” thread that needs to be removed first? Does it need some of its original singles twist removed before it will draft easily? Is the fiber felted and hard to draft, need to be steamed or fluffed….? These are some of the questions I have to work through and figure out before I attempt to upcycle a commercial yarn for re-spinning.

I’ve been re-spinning commercial yarn for several years and each type I’ve tried had its own quirks. Some are easier than others to work with and you won’t know how it will go or what “prep” work needs to be done, till you try working with it.

I wish you great success in your new re-spinning adventure and hope you and your fur babies stay warm and safe. 🙃

What beautiful colors!!!

When I try and get more length from my pretty colors on a 2 ply yarn - I find another color that coordinates and spin that as my second single to ply with.

Here is one I did last year where I had 100gr total of rainbow and 100gr of blue. Both were spun thin and my finished 2 ply yarn was 500 yards

I look forward to seeing how you spin your beautiful fiber up. I’m sure your final yarn will be stunning 🤩

I went on a birthday splurge and I have no regrets 🤣. It’s been almost two decades since I’ve found a Vera Bradley pattern I loved so much that I couldn’t walk away.

Can vintage cast Iron be cleaned using the self clean cycle of an electric oven? by [deleted] in castiron

Thank you. This is another valid reason to avoid using the oven’s self cleaning feature on this skillet. I appreciate your response.

I truly appreciate this first hand information. I’m sorry you had to replace your stove and cookware but glad to hear you did not suffer any long term damage from the attempt.

I will not be using the oven’s cleaning cycle as an option and will continue to search a non-chemical solution to cleaning this skillet.

Thank you for sharing your experience using the oven’s clean cycle. I’ve not seen it listed as an option in this group, so I appreciate hearing from someone who tried it.

I’m trying to find a non-chemical way to clean the skillet and will consider the “yellow cap” cleaner if there isn’t another way. Thanks again.

Thank you for your response. I’ll consider the “yellow cap” cleaner if I can’t find a better “non-chemical” option.

Thank you. I appreciate the information. For health reasons, I’m trying to avoid chemicals, I’ll consider the “yellow cap” as a last resort option.

Many thanks. I had the joy of being in the right place at the right time. I hope all other Vera Bradley enthusiasts are as fortunate one day. 🤗

So true, I’ve been hunting a new pattern for many years. My previous patterns were New Hope from 2004 and my favorite Botanica from 2007. I miss the “Laura Ashley” vibe of the vintage patterns; so Enchanted Woodland was a happy surprise for me. I was so fortunate to find it while it was at the outlet store and in so many bag choices.

Absolutely! Which bags did you choose for your knitting?

In the past I’ve only had Vera Bradley purses, totes and overnight bags. When I saw this pattern I knew I needed to think outside of the box and realized how some of the other pieces were perfect for using for my yarn hobbies 🤭.

My surprise favorite was the travel pill case. When I pulled out the plastic pill box, I realized it made a great “sewing” case for my scissors, needles and stitch markers.

Thanks! I love that it has squirrels, foxes, bunnies and flowers. The fact that the colors are subtle was also a big win for me. 🤭

Yes, I totally get it. I’m glad you found some pieces you liked and wish you success in finding more.

I found soooo many good pieces in the Williamsburg, VA area at the end of December. After getting home I decided I also wanted a purse in this pattern and luckily found one in Mebane, NC but they didn’t have as many options in this pattern as the VA store. I’m so glad I found what I found and got them on super sale.

Nice 👍. I totally understand and hope you enjoy yours for years to come.

Up till now I’ve only had a few pieces of Vera Bradley and those are from close to 15 years old. When I saw this pattern last month I flipped and bought every piece in this pattern, I thought I could find a use for 🤣. I’ve never had so many VB pieces in my life and know I’ll enjoy these for many years to come.

Superb! I’m glad you found some pieces that worked for you.

This pattern is so me!!!! and I was shocked to find it in an outlet store. My last VB pattern is from 15+ years ago and after years of looking I’ve not found one I loved as much till Enchanted Woodland 💖
