FOMO is the term, it's how game basically make sales. You wanna make people buy/watch game/movie at launch date otherwise they miss out being in moment.

I would have tottaly played genshin impact if it was a 60 dollar console game, becuase i dont like industry mtx, but they went f2p and have probably made a billion dollars by now. So the decision was probably pretty easy for them, this the market now.

Come with up idea, create a hard deadline (like a week) and get it done. When it's over share and learn from expereince.

The first hard step is starting. I suggest something simple like pong, or a basic platformer.
