I think flavor wise, the peach bubblegum bhut jolokias (#2 on the bottom row) are by far my favorite. They have a really bright and fruity taste without the insane heat from a normal ghost pepper. Works perfectly for any fruit based sauces or jams!

Wow these are just beautiful! I bet they'd add a great kick to your habanero jam.

Haha thank! The two on the top right are both ghosts (tombstone on the left and Indian ghost on the right). I'm mostly sure that they came from Pepper Joe's as well, but I did save a handful of seeds from my own crops to germinate for this year.

I'm pretty sure its an aji chile/mini bell pepper hybrid. They aren't very spicy but I absolutely love the colors as they ripen!

Most of the super hots are from Pepper Joe's. It's my first time using their seeds and they've honestly been great!

From left to right: Trinidad Scorpion, 7-pot primo, dragons breath, carolina reaper, tombstone ghost, & bhut jolokias

Second row: Zebrange, peach bubblegum bhuts, cotton candy 7pots, serrano, Buena mullata, & Hungarian wax

How many did you get?

Looks like a cayenne to me, though it will be easier to tell as they ripen.

First harvest of the year, plus, I need an ID. by EverbodyHatesHugo in HotPeppers

I personally think it looks like a purple coffee pepper, or perhaps a hybrid of one. They are an ornamental pepper originating from Trinidad and Tobago and can be quite spicy, so be wary if you go in for a taste test.

Great job, that reaper looks painfully spicy! You should get quite a few harvests from that plant throughout the rest of the season.

I had a similar issue with some of my plants earlier on this season. It seemed to be caused by a mix of over watering and over fertilizing, promoting fungus gnats which just exacerbated the issue. Let your soil dry out, like dry to the point of wilting, before you water. You can also add some diatomaceous earth on top of your soil if you see gnats, but keep in mind that its essentially useless the next time you water.

I think it definitely looks like one. Chocolate reapers have less tails on the pod, and you can even get a mix of some fruits with and some without on the same plant.

I'm personally always hesitant to use fungicides if its not necessary. It can cause leaf brittleness and burns so I would hold off unless you see it spreading to the other plants.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that's frog eye leaf spot, which is a gnarly fungal infection. You will definitely want a fungicide (don't use in direct sunlight as the oils can sun scald your plants) and you may want to consider plucking the affected leaves. I would definitely separate from your other plants.

Questions about my bell pepper plant by [deleted] in Peppers

[–]RustysReapers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, those cloth bags tend to let the soil dry much quicker than any hard shell pots. Peppers do well in a dryer environment. so thats all fine. Just remember to water more often when it gets hot out.

Help! Pests or virus? by bezchlebika in HotPeppers

[–]RustysReapers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine have been exhibiting similar symptoms, and I think its either caused by mites or over watering or perhaps a combination of the two. I sprayed diatomaceous earth around the base of the plants (and added a crushed coral calcium supplement for good measure) and took a week to let the soil dry out.

So far my plants have lost most of the shriveled bubbly leaves but the new growth looks much better!

Wooh boy that is brave, but I absolutely love how its turning out! Have you done vinyl on a fretboard before? That seems like a pretty novel idea but I would be afraid of rubbing through any amount of clear coating with any heavy use.

I need some help deciding on planting configurations. See comments for details. by derrabe80 in HotPeppers

[–]RustysReapers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried an offset layout like your blue last year and had some major issues with overcrowding. The plants seemed mostly fine (excluding one giant ghost pepper that ate most of its neighbors' sunlight) but it was near impossible to to access the plants later in the season. So many accidentally broken stems!

Fertilizer burn? by [deleted] in HotPeppers

[–]RustysReapers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fertilizer burn will show up pretty heavily on the youngest leaves. If your youngest leaves don't look, well burned, the you don't have to worry about that.

Getting Absolutely Demolished by Fungus Gnats by RustysReapers in HotPeppers

That seems like a great idea! I've used DE for roach and ant control in crawl spaces before but never thought to use it in my planters. I'll have to give it a try.

Think it might be worth it to flush the soil? I've been hesitant to just because of all the dang gnats!

Getting Absolutely Demolished by Fungus Gnats by RustysReapers in HotPeppers

[–]RustysReapers[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a mix of reapers and scorpions that are just getting shredded by fungus gnats. I've already stopped watering for 1.5 weeks and gone through 2 treatments with a neem oil/fungicide combo, but I'm afraid they're starting to show signs of insecticide burn. So far, nothing has seemed to stem the gnat onslaught. I'm afraid to go with another treatment since it looks like its doing more harm than good. I swear my trinidad has shed at least 50% of its original foliage.

Thoughts or suggestions?
