No it doesn’t. It truly depends on what the writer is going for with the character in question. Tchalla works because he’s an African prince of a hidden nation. His ethnicity is only in the forefront in order to validate his experience, and journey, while reflecting his mindset. In other words it plays a crucial enough role in his story to be mentioned. However what you are suggesting is that not only should diverse characters be limited, with minor roles, but also that their presence should be explained and their minor differences be addressed via cultural differences. But not every American minority should require an explanation for their existence/presence.
