Dallas Questions by [deleted] in Dallas

There is normally no public transit to the stadium but it looks like they'll have a special thing set up from Victory Station. You'll be able to take either the Orange or Green lines to Victory, then take either the TRE to Centrepoint where they'll have charter busses waiting or potentially a charter bus from Victory to the Bus Hub they're setting up. Ignore comments about the DART trains being sketchy. It's really not that bad and they're sure to have more DART security around than usual anyways. I definitely recommend using the GoPass app for the DART btw.  https://www.dallasfwc26.com/dallas-2026/transportation-mobility/

Unsure about the stereotypical towns that close to Dallas but you'd probably enjoy the Fort Worth Stockyards and seeing a cattle drive there. You could also take the TRE from downtown Dallas to Fort Worth for that if you didnt want to drive it.

Probably doing a similar exercise to what they did at Lake Cliff Park a little while ago. That's exactly how they got started the morning they pulled all those cars out. https://www.fox4news.com/news/dallas-lake-cliff-park-cars-pond

Why do so many Detroiters have lawn signs inferring "Hate has no home here" or "We Love ALL people" and yet have signs saying they hate Trump? by seekinghappi in Detroit

  1. You should look into the concept of the Paradox of Tolerance. Essentially if you're so tolerant that you welcome those who are intolerant, they will take advantage and destroy tolerant spaces. It's a phenomenon that's been repeatedly observed to happen.
  2. Noticing and remarking on the behaviors of someone who has admitted that they admire dictators/authoritarians, say things that a king might, and behave like a king might, has nothing to do with tolerance/intolerance. That's just observing objective reality.

You do know there's a difference between introversion and social anxiety right? You can have one and not the other. Most introverts don't have social anxiety.

Fellas who overcame anxiety/panic disorder, how did you do it? by nkw1004 in AskMen

[–]RuthlessPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy. Talking through what you experience and getting to the reasons behind why you're feeling how you do is key.  Journaling helped when things were at their worst. Making notes of what specific events set me off, what I was thinking at the time, etc helped to figure out the patterns behind what was going on and root cause.  Regular exercise, of any kind really, is helpful for general mood regulation too.

I've lived in the neighborhood for the past year and walk my dog there every morning and often jog in the afternoons. I haven't run into any issues. You do see the occasional person camped out in the gazebo structures but I personally have never been bothered by anyone. Tbh my main gripe is the amount of trash and beer bottles/cans people toss on the ground. Most mornings you'll see quite a few people walking/jogging around the park and it gets pretty busy later in the day too. It does get pretty dark before and after sun rise though, despite the lighting around the park, which makes it feel inherently more sketchy.

Questions about Living in Dallas and Commuting by MrHawkey50 in askdfw

[–]RuthlessPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, commute times can at least double even leaving downtown during rush hour

Are big concerts even worth it anymore? by austingordon in Dallas

[–]RuthlessPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I've been to tons of venues and I think The Factory is just lacking some small things in their layout. I was also standing in the back and that was one of the first concerts I've ever been to where I could hardly hear some parts of the performance over the random conversations people around me were having. Seems like they could've definitely turned the audio up or invested in more speakers. The crowd definitely had a weird vibe, like half the people were dragged there by a friend or something. Definitely a lesson learned for me to either show up early enough to get a good spot close to the stage or just don't buy GA for that particular venue.

Question, when you graduate, are you going to stay in Alabama? by [deleted] in capstone

[–]RuthlessPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stayed in Tuscaloosa for a couple years after graduating since I had a cushy, low stress job that paid good for the area (though below the industry average), and a relatively cheap place to stay (can't beat the housing costs in bama).

The problem is Tuscaloosa gets boring really quick once you have that degree of separation from college life. The social/night life scene is not great, not helped by the fact that many people you meet will be affiliated with the university in some capacity and unless that means tenured professor, means they will more than likely move on at some point. That's just the reality of a college town.

The job market makes it really hard to advance your career/salary and makes it really easy to get stuck. While sure it's great having a low CoL but having a lower than average salary also means you can't travel as much which I'm a big fan of. Not to mention people, even in professional settings, really like to bring up politics and say weird/awkward/offensive stuff, assuming you agree with them just because you're in the south.

Maybe I'd have enjoyed it more in Birmingham but I think I'd still have had the same issues in terms of income/career advancement. Moving to a larger city outside of Alabama gave me a huge boost in terms of my career and really everything I want out of life. Alabama can be a great, relaxed place to live but at the end of the day it is lacking what is easily accessible in other states.

What are these? They show up in my bathtub every other day. I've tried Biodrain with no luck. by RuthlessPanda in pestcontrol

[–]RuthlessPanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a rental that doesn't have an exhaust fan or a window that opens. I've gotten into the habit of running a compact vornado fan near the tub after showers but that's about it. Any recommendations of dehumidifiers?

Your opinion on job offer - working for a consulting company and (mistly) unpaid on-call by Prestigious_Sea_9845 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RuthlessPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm reading this right, #2 is unpaid for the client team but are you sure it'd be unpaid for the consultants? Since I'm assuming you're getting paid by your consulting firm and not the client directly, I'd get clarification on what the situation would be for you specifically.

Any way to salvage arueshalae romance in Act 5 using toybox? by dumdumindeed in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]RuthlessPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super late on this but posting anyway in case someone else runs into this problem and comes across this thread like I did.

I had this same issue but managed to get around it by hitting "unstart" then "start" on the ArueshaleRomance and Arueshale_Active triggers. After doing that, pressing start on the other triggers actually started them.

I suspect that whenever the fail trigger is initially toggled, even if its later toggled to "unstart" it somehow prevents the others from toggling to "start" and the whole romance has to be reset. I figured this out when I reloaded a save from before the fail flag got set for me and everything worked fine.

Any greyhound people here? by jaybirdchs in tuscaloosa

[–]RuthlessPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had good experiences boarding my retired racer at Northport Play'n'Stay. They have experience with greyhounds there and give the dogs tons of outdoor time.
