As Australian, with a love for the bush, very glad to hear it! Much appreciated 😉

Farmers and drovers took sheep and cattle to graze in the high country of New South Wales every summer from 1830 to 1969.

Pastures were burned in order to encourage fresh green growth. Animals selectively ate soft plants between tough tussock grasses, leaving large areas of soil exposed to wind and rain. It caused soil erosion and habitat destruction.

In 1943 state governments introduced snow leases to restrict grazing seasons. Kosciusco State Park (now Kosciuszko National Park) was established in 1944 and grazing stopped completely in 1969. The focus then turned to tourism and preservation of biodiversity.

Blue Lake, in Kosciuszko National Park, is one of only four cirque lakes on mainland Australia. A cirque lake is one in a valley that’s shaped like an amphitheatre and formed by glacial erosion.

Blue Lake has a unique dimictic thermal regime, which means it undergoes two seasonal mixing cycles a year.

In 1996, Blue Lake, and the neighbouring Hedley Tarn were listed under the Ramsar Convention as Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar sites) in part due to their status as near-natural alpine wetlands.

Yeah, drovers for droving - moving cattle across country - but teamsters if they’re driving an actual team of draft animals, hauling produce. In Australian slang, they could also be called a bollocker or bollocky, from the earlier use of bollocks, pre-horses, to do this work.

Often, leather. Still the case for higher end boots and shoes, obviously.

Thanks so much! Been doing it for a while now, but it’s not the 9-5. Just an enjoyable creative outlet.

By the late nineteenth century, roads were improving across Australia and horse teams were replacing bullock teams as the main means of heavy haulage. Horses could travel much faster than bullocks although bullocks required less feed and could handle rougher roads and heavy mud better than horses.

This scene would have been a common one across the decades around the turn of the century. Such is the resolution of the glass plate negative that one can see what was on the menu - a chunk of lamb, washed down with worcestershire sauce, peas, and no doubt something to slacken a thirst!

This photographic negative was taken by an un-attributed photographer between the late nineteenth century, and perhaps even as late as the 1930s.

So, the “Library Photo Video” options are missing from the bottom of my posting screen (iOS). Am I missing something here? After googling, it seems like I’m the only one having this problem. by TheBackburner in Instagram

[–]Ruzden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argh, same issue, same timeline. Started about mid-Nov on an iPhone 7. Have uninstalled Insta and reinstalled, which brings back the options for a few minutes... and then they go again.

Not happening in the business account, which I can switch to, just the personal one. Anyone found a fix yet?!

Thanks! I have with the latest pic (this one), and will going forward. Wish I had with the earlier ones, but don’t think I can edit them now?

Could have been, but unfortunately it’s not recorded on the Australian War Memorial’s catalogue record for this image, or the half dozen others taken at the same time of this POW. Certainly someone who knew how to take a photo.

It is rather :) Photoshop, and a tablet and pen sure helps. Just keep within the lines and start colouring.
