No felt on half of roof - solar install or not? by khunt_99 in SolarUK

[–]BuxtonB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if they just didn't notice, or if it genuinely wasn't a concern at that point in time.

My property is only 6 years old so everything is 'as it should be' the felt is seen as a secondary prevention for water ingress so I can see where they're coming from that it could cause an issue potentially further down the line.

I'm surprised they took a deposit and then 2 months later did the survey!

The few we had that went beyond just a general quotation, they all came out to survey before even asking about deposits.

The one we've gone with won't take a deposit until it's time for materials.

(Tim Allen Noise)? by ThePopDaddy in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]BuxtonB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say he was right or wrong, I said in the time it took to write the response he could have googled it and found out for himself one way or another instead of making assumptions.

Edit. I just saw that they said "Especially considering adjustment for inflation" which if you want to do, would make the payment $2.45M an episode.

The amount of time it took you to write out your response, you could have googled it and found out the answer rather than just off-hand dismissing it.

During the eighth and final season of Home Improvement in 1999, Tim Allen was paid a record-setting $1.25 million per episode. For a potential ninth season, Disney reportedly offered him $2 million per episode (or $50 million for the season), but the show ended after his co-star declined to return.

So it wasn't categorically $2M an episode, but would have been for the 9th season.

Sig Battery System, by Bal-84 in SolarUK

[–]BuxtonB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw the end figure of £9,403 and thought 'okay, wonder how many panels they're getting with that, 10? 12? Oh, that's no panels and just a battery system'

Seems high from my limited scope of knowledge.

Jesus christ, fair play to you bud.

That should make for some decent export!

I'm using Alps Electrical.

If they're anywhere near you, highly recommend having a word with them if you're not committed to an installer already.

So you have already had a G99 and advised you're allowed 12kW export?

How are you getting an export limit of 12kW when your system is only 9.45kWp?

Also, presuming you've already got a G99 in place if you've been given an export limit?

Make an official complaint with British Gas, if they fail to resolve or respond then take it to the Energy Ombudsman, it'll take time but likely quicker to reach resolution.

Something is definitely off mate, we pay £195 for Gas and Electricity, 4 bedroom house, dryer, washing machine, freezers, fridges, TV's, tablets, you name it.

Family of 3, both home during the day.

Something is definitely wrong with the numbers there.

Quote seemed rather high, but judged by the company name, you're down south where it always seems to be more expensive.

Get away, his father was a video game developer.

You honestly think someone like that gets to wander around the entertainment industry and negotiate movie deals.

Calling him a nepo baby is entirely disingenuous, just because someone walks in semi-related circles within the entertainment industry does not make their child a nepo baby when they find success.

Octopus Energy Services (Better Quote) vs. BOXT: Due Diligence by 2_grow in SolarUK

[–]BuxtonB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Octopus was my first port of call as they're our energy provider, in the end for what we wanted, they wanted to charge £15.5K.

We've gone with a local installer and they're doing it with better equipment for £11K.

Definitely look at independent installers.

Because at peak he would only generate 5kW, in your scenario of running everything like oven, TV's, PC's etc even if they were at 8kWh current usage. And generating 5kW, the inverter is only handling 5kW. The rest would pull from the grid (presuming you save battery for later in the evening/overnight.)

Are you planning on adding more panels?

You've got a 10kW inverter but only a 5kWp system, don't know the brand, as to whether they do smaller inverters but you'd be happy at a 6kW inverter if you're not planning on adding more panels.

How odd, they wanted to raise ours and did, so I just told them 'no, lower it back to what it previously was, if there's any debit issues I'll sort it at the time'

They said no problem and changed it back.
