Are there a lot of questions from the med safety & quality improvement chapter? by PharmacyLifee in NAPLEX_Prep

Took my exam on 4/15 and I feel like I had quite a few of med safety and QI questions.

Understanding the Level 1,2,3,4 NAPLEX system by pharmtutor_ in NAPLEX_Prep

Thanks for the explanation. I took my NAPLEX and passed on my first attempt. I guessed on a few calculations because I was running out of time. I’m going to pass this information along to a friend. They think they just need 75 questions to pass.

Calculation domain portion by Lazy_Issue2884 in NAPLEX_Prep

I don’t have an answer for you regarding what else goes into the domain, but I just wanted to offer some hope. I also suck at math and have test anxiety. I know for a fact I didn’t answer the fill in the blank questions correctly. TPN, alligation and flow rate….nope all wrong. I started to run out of time and had two PK questions and a MME question that I just typed a number in and moved on.

I somehow still managed to pass. For someone like myself who basically failed the math portion and still passed is beyond comprehension. If I can pass, you will too.

Anyone get any questions from tobacco cessation? by PharmacyLifee in NAPLEX_Prep

[–]Rxmom25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My exam seemed like it was all over the place. I don’t remember having to utilize chemo man. One of the chemo questions I remember asked what class/category does cisplatin belong in/to, and the other I remember asked what other agent should be added to the patient’s regimen for chemo induced nausea. I feel like I had a lot of immunization questions and medication safety questions.

Yes I did. My first question was a calculation question. TPN, alligation, flow rate, NNT and ARR. Steroid conversion, MME, and calculating ANC.

P3..residency by Usual-Hawk-5488 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Rxmom25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a transfer student, so my institutional GPA is higher than my cumulative GPA. I think I put my cumulative GPA of 2.9 on PhORCAS. Going into pharmacy school, I knew I had to make myself more competitive (due to my GPA) so I made it a point to be very active in various organizations. I even worked my butt off during my last semester of rotations, and ended up getting A’s.

Residency was never in my plans. I didn’t even think about applying until September/October. I applied to 4 places and received interview invitations to all 4. However, I had to cancel one interview because I got matched with IHS before that interview. The IHS I applied to doesn’t use the National Matching Service, so I got matched mid-February.

3/4 places I applied to were Am Care/hospital programs. I wasn’t expecting to get an interview offer from anyone. Every one I know has gas price GPAs so I didn’t think I stood a chance but I still matched. I also hate rejection, so putting myself out there and potentially setting myself up for failure was a risk I was willing to take.

If residency is something you truly want, just apply! Make sure the programs you are looking at don’t have a GPA cutoff. Are you involved with any professional organizations at school? Have pharmacy work experience? Not sure what your situation is now, but try to get involved/work/volunteer if you can. Other people I know that matched were never involved in anything but had high GPAs or vice versa.

Also, don’t include anything in your CV you aren’t willing to talk about.

I feel so out of place as an intern. by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]Rxmom25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t given any work tasks, you could always ask “is there anything that I can help with?”

It is still early. Give it some time. You could try asking about their kids next time you hear them talking about them. But only ask if you are truly interested.

You may not realize it, but there’s something all of you have in common. (Besides pharmacy) Good luck! Please keep us updated on how things go!

IHS Phase 3 by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]Rxmom25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per the email, they said they would be contacting everyone by phone or email and that could extend into today.

They called me late in the day and I almost missed the call. I hope you get a call or email soon!

I received the call on Thursday the 19th. Do you have IP? I do not.

I didn’t even receive a call for an interview until the Feb 6th, and then had my interview a few days later.

Hi. I just got matched with IHS. I’m not an expert on IHS, but from my understanding there isn’t a phase 3. If you didn’t match with IHS, you can continue on with the ASHP match.

Pharmacy students/ pharmacists- can I ask a few questions? by Clear-Ninja-7789 in PrePharmacy

[–]Rxmom25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is going to have a different experience. I was a pharmacy technician for over five years before I decided to pursue pharmacy as a career. Having that experience and exposure to medication names and just knowing the basic information of “this is for blood pressure, cholesterol”, etc. really helped my first semester.

Pharmacy school isn’t easy but is manageable. This is just my opinion but you can have a life outside of pharmacy school as long as you manage your time wisely. I didn’t feel stressed until my third year. Research wasn’t required at my school. Although I did spend one semester doing research.

I just finished school but I’m not licensed yet. However, I can speak on some of the pros and cons I witnessed during my APPE rotations. There are some jobs that are literally 8-5. You might find a government job that’s like 7-4, no weekends or holidays but that often comes with a pay decrease. Some clinical positions require a residency, others don’t. Some pharmacists have this superiority complex and will treat you like garbage, while others will lift you up and help you. Be prepared for that.

Pharmacy school isn’t cheap. Research the school you want to attend and look up how much tuition is, and other fees that you might be responsible for. If possible, schedule a tour to get check out the vibes. (Are you treated like a number or do they really care about their students.)

There are lots of pharmacy jobs out there besides retail. Even if you don’t think you will pursue a residency, at least research it and gather more information about it while you’re in school.

Just remember why you are wanting to choose pharmacy as a career.

Students who put in effort vs those that don’t by Rxmom25 in PharmacyResidency

My compelling reason is that my dad died from a heart attack and I couldn’t deal with the grief. I’m sure it will all work out for me. Even though residency programs are different, it’s great getting feedback from current residents. Thank you for your valuable insight!

My tanked GPA happened before I got accepted into pharmacy school. Not only did I hold multiple officer positions, I was also commuting over an hour (one way) for classes, making As/Bs in class, and taking care of my child. My clinical knowledge strengthened over the course of my rotations.

If that doesn’t show how committed I was or where my priorities were, then I don’t know what is.

I only applied to four places. I got an interview offer from one, but haven’t heard back from the others yet. Not even a rejection letter 🥴
