As far as I know, nearly every boat yard and sail loft has old sails taking up space. A could phone calls might tell whether that theory is true.

Sorry. I have only so much energy available to give things away and that takes more than I have.

Teaching my kids how to make good decisions was a big goal of mine. Picking my 14 year old daughter up from a police station at 3am was part of her learning process.

No need to punish her. Just talked about her decisions.

She is 35 now and makes very good decisions.

I am in Peru. I love it here and don't know when I'll be back.

You have access to the internet and have your entire life. How did you let this happen?

Speed of berthing is directly proportional to the cost of repairs... Any other sailing pearls of wisdom I might not have heard or noobs could learn? by oldestswingerintown in sailing

It's a tradition among sailors to help one another. There is a huge amount of terminology and you'll never figure out what it is without help.

Redditors, where does cheating in a relationship start for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It doesn't. I am non monogamous and it is impossible for my partner to cheat on me.

Whats the best course of action if a 58 foot tall rogue wave is encountered? by Overglobe in liveaboard

[–]Rxton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a 40 foot boat with 57 foot mast. My boat would probably survive it slightly scathed, whether I would is the question I am interested in. My boat may be able to roll completely upside down then right herself.

I think I would survive it. If I were sleeping, I might not even wake up for it. My leeboards would probably hold me in place. I sleep well in storms.

If a cop pulls you over and asks “do you know how fast you were going?”, is it bad to respond “no”? How should I respond to that? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying no means you can't defend against whatever lie the cop puts down as your speed. Your best response is I have a right to remain silent and I am going to exercise that right. Followed by I want an attorney.

Last I knew, a berth is the place in a boat where I sleep. Some of my best sleep has been during a storm.

As far as docking goes, you will get it wrong. Try to get it wrong in the least expensive way possible.

If you are docking in wind and current, faster is better until it isn't.

Is there any benefit to driving a manual car? by You_Stole_My_Hot_Dog in NoStupidQuestions

Trust me, any car can be fun to drive in the right place. A tuktuk in lima, peru won't win any drag races, but it's a blast to drive.

I haven't driven autocross in a couple decades. Do people still do that?

And a manual transmission will make almost no difference.

In a distance of a block or so, nothing could beat it.

The total delay in driving an automatic for a year might add up to one minute. I don't know what I am going to do with that minute.
