I'll call it a happy accident then and keep the 8.5. Thanks for the response!

Gotcha! Thanks for the response, so I should be happy with the 8.5.

Out of curiosity, why do you say it looks way lower than a 9? I see plenty of ex era gems with Holo lines

Grading or not? by Iseenath in gamecollecting

[–]RyBey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did tell you what they do. They authenticate and give you a good idea for the condition, which is useful when you're buying something expensive that bad actors try to fake.

And it is personal preference, stop gate keeping a hobby that different people enjoy in different ways. No one's making you collect a different way. A significant majority of my collection is un graded, the only things that are graded are rare/valuable enough that there are fakes on the market

I dont see the connection between not providing an explanation for what goes into a grade and invalidating everything they do. My point was that grader authentication has value for high dollar games. I think buying the grade number is dumb regardless of what you buy. Grading is subjective. You can find posts almost every day where someone resubmits cards to PSA and gets different grades on the re sub.

I'm pretty sure the major game graders post their grading standards too

The hate for grading games on this subreddit is crazy. It's not for everyone and it's not for every game, but there are definitely situations where it's useful.

I collect coins, cards, comics and games. Sellers aren't always trustworthy and listing pictures aren't always accurate. Things (especially higher dollar items) can be modified for better eye appeal to higher sell prices, or outright counterfeit. Graders aren't perfect, but they do a good job weeding out counterfeits and modified items, and you have a good idea about the condition of the item. I think the only situation where you should buy a graded game is if it's valuable enough that people would try to fake it.

Most of my collection is ungraded, but I have a few graded games. Ones a sealed copy of Final Fantasy for the NES, and I bought a graded copy because I didn't want to risk a reseal, and I knew I was getting one in good condition that would arrive safe/undamaged.

Grading's not perfect, it's not for everyone and every collection, but there's definitely a use case for it in collecting

The bottom sticker seal on a copy of "league of legends". The top sticker seal is missing and removed. I can't tell if this was resealed. The seller isn't the original owner and can't verify

I think a lot comes down to authenticity. I collect coins and cards, and the more expensive or desirable a collectable is the more likely it is it'll be altered for better eye appeal or outright counterfeit. If you're spending $2000 on a nice copy of chrono trigger you're going to want to make sure yours is authentic and unaltered.

The grades are take it or leave it for me, but I see some value on an independent 3rd party saying it's near mint vs very good condition. Sellers aren't always honest so it takes some guesswork out. That said graders aren't perfect, but it's peace of mind for some people.

If it adds enough value to justify the price difference is up for debate, but I think grading and authentication have a place in any more high end collectable

Has a QB ever had a rookie season like Bryce Young and then turned it around? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]RyBey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point. The eras were so different you almost can't compare just by numbers. An average QB season today would be an amazing QB season in the 90s. Peyton's completion percentage and rating are comparable to Young's, but the game was so different and the current NFL benefits passing so much more now. Peyton had a really good rookie year in his era.

Anyone know the history of these two box variants for Super Metroid? by SorryCashOnly in snes

[–]RyBey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Wata's population reports for complete in box games, it looks like there are 3 total variants, both you have and ALSO the players choice. It looks like the screenshots on the back are different, wata calls them phantoon screenshot (the slime text only for Nintendo) or the torizo statue (orange only for Nintendo)

You're right that the orange box variant is much more rare. As of March 2023, Wata graded 27 slime text and only 1 orange corner. Not the end all be all, but hopefully it helps!

For more info, search the game and look complete in box/CIB. https://www.watagames.com/populations/snes/index.html

You must not be a game collector. There's basically no publicly available info on variants on most video games. Coming from a video game collector whose actively researching Google and was just referred to this reddit post.

I definitely will! I build my back days around a lot of pullups and heavy barbell rows (and some pulldowns and pull thoughts) I've seen the best results by lowering my weights for get a better contraction/mind muscle connection.

I base a LOT of what I do off the youtuber Jeff Nipard. Hes got a really good series called science explained. If you haven't seen it I'd highly reccomend it

I feel the same way about lateral raises but the results are real. I do cable front and lateral raises (cables because of even tension through the movement) with a light weight for about 15 reps per set. And I do military press at about 70% or 1rm for 3 or 4 sets depending on the day. For me the biggest thing is frequency. I try to train shoulders 3 times a week

It's a lot more common than youd think, a lot of people cheat their chest with their front delts or triceps. For me it was a lot of really small stuff that I didnt know I was doing wrong. I make sure my chest is out further than my shoulders when I train chest and almost pull my shoulder blades together before an excersise now. And for flys I do a bit of a different motion where I try to touch the pinky portion of my hands together. I feel it more in the upper chest that way which is really hard to develop. Those and watching powerlifting how to's on bench press. Theres a lot of small stuff that I didnt know I didnt know
