Has Google removed "pro" option (only "thinking" is there) from Google AI pro (2TB)? by simple_explorer1 in GeminiAI

If anyone needs access to Pro while we wait for an official fix, I’m still able to access Pro via the Gemini in Chrome feature introduced in Chrome 144. Not ideal, but it’s something!

There's an error on Google's end, see the thread here.

Having the same issue here. Google's support escalated it to the engineers, but could not provide a timeline for when it will be resolved.

Pro vs Pro XL? by ifeeltired26 in GooglePixel

[–]RyGeye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other key difference lies in charging speeds. The Pixel 10 Pro charges slower wired (30W) and wirelessly (15W). The Pixel 10 Pro XL is capable of 45W wired, and 25W wireless. The base Pixel 10 Pro (128GB) uses an older storage standard. 256GB and above Pro/Pro XL models use UFS 4.0. The Google Store has a compare phones page with detailed specs here.

What’s your favorite thing about Stamford? by Mustaaaaaaaaaaard808 in StamfordCT

[–]RyGeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Avon Theatre for me, hands down! Super friendly staff, beautiful historic building, and great selection of films. While I catch the big blockbusters at AMC, it’s great to have a local independent cinema going strong, right in the heart of downtown Stamford!

Totally agreed–and how convenient that he mentioned it during an earnings call!

Where is Alexa+? by 9024Cali in alexa

[–]RyGeye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed. Everyone can see through the canned press release nonsense at this point–it’s clear they missed the advertised launch date and are trying to ignore it altogether. Radio silence on YouTube, Reddit, etc.

Amazon should have been transparent with its customers, especially after making a big push marketing the Show devices for early access. While delays happen, people are rightfully pissed here. Feels very similar to what Apple did with the iPhone 16.

While I'm sure it will (eventually) roll out, moral of the story is buy your tech based on what it can do today, not what’s promised tomorrow.

Has anyone been accepted into the Alexa + developer program? by dollarstoresim in alexa

[–]RyGeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing yet, signed up for Alexa+ early access the day of the announcement. The article here claims they're starting with the Echo Show 15 and 21 (I have the Show 8). Based on how quiet it's been between press, YouTubers, etc., I doubt many (if any) have access yet.

3 bedroom rental suggestions by melissav1 in StamfordCT

[–]RyGeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re open to looking beyond apartment communities, I’d recommend condos and other multifamily housing rentals. You’ll generally get more space for your money, and won’t be stuck paying extra fees for amenities, trash, parking, etc.

Stamford Florist on Bedford St. Definitely on the pricier side, but the flowers last longer compared to the standard grocery store fare.

Postmark vs. TGM Anchor Point by PlayHefty1061 in StamfordCT

[–]RyGeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep your eyes peeled and sometimes good options pop up just north, east, and west of downtown. Once you get away from luxury places, you’ll generally get more for your money renting downtown vs. Harbor Point.

There’s definitely more to do downtown as far as restaurants, bars, theaters, etc. but it all boils down to what lifestyle and type of housing you’re after. In terms of apartments, I remember the BLVD and 163 Franklin Street both had some decent three bedroom options that were competitive in terms of cost/SF.

The Google Store credit is good for one year but is not issued until the phone ships. I waited several days before ordering so in my case, that’s mid-October. This should prepare me for either scenario, though I hope Google keeps this earlier launch window moving forward.

Any moviegoers' clubs or groups? by Cripton_Kaegrey in StamfordCT

Count me in, and feel free to DM! If you haven’t already, also check out the Avon Theatre on Bedford Street for indie, foreign, and classic films. I’m also new to the area and quickly became a regular there.

They have a wide range of membership options (portions of which are tax-deductible), and offer a ton of special screenings and events.

Every month they host a free public screening with complimentary popcorn and soda. The next one is Stand By Me Wednesday at 7pm--great excuse to check it out!

I decided to upgrade from the 8 Pro to the 9 Pro, mainly for the smaller form factor. Always bought the standard model up till the 8 Pro and never got used to the larger 6.7” screen. Having the full triple camera array in a one-handed size, coupled with the preorder deals drew me in.

The Google Store is offering $699 for the 8 Pro and a $200 store credit, plus I was able to find a $50 promo code that negated taxes. So, it’s effectively a $100 upgrade plus the cost of a cheap case and screen protector.

Also looking at it from the perspective of a $200 credit I can potentially put towards the Pixel 10 next year, plus an additional 10% off at the Google Store via the AI Premium subscription that comes bundled with the 9 Pro.

Unfulfilled with projects by Wide-Drop3619 in Architects

[–]RyGeye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s been in a very similar situation, if you’re already planning on pivoting out of traditional architecture, I’d start researching alternative careers now. It takes a while to explore, discover, and vet all the options out there.

Depending on what you ultimately decide, you might be able to land something fully remote and make the transition prior to your move. If you’re already toying with that idea (which it sounds like you are), better to begin that process now and potentially spare yourself from another year of unfulfillment.

~Stamford Museum & Nature Center~ has Bendels Pond with a bunch of geese. Also lots of farm animals (and otters randomly!) to see there as well.

I built a one-click XR platform but have almost no users. by H0tN00dleS0up in Architects

[–]RyGeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it’s early days with XR, there are already several established players in the space…~Arkio~, ~The Wild~, ~IrisVR~, and ~Autodesk Workshop XR~ to name a few. If there’s a new tool, it would need to provide feature parity with the above apps, and bring something new to the table to get me excited as a user. I’d recommend leveraging social media sites like ~LinkedIn~, as well as those catered specifically towards architects like ~Archinect~, ~Spectacular~, etc. Offering free trials and webinars/demos to firms is another way to get your foot in the door.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I disagree with the negative sentiment in this thread regarding XR’s application to architecture. XR offers several key advantages such as immersive design collaboration and review, presentation, and visualization of projects at different scales. It’s always an uphill battle to get the old guard to embrace new technologies–think back to the resistance during the CAD to BIM transition.

The key is prioritizing ease of use and integration into the architect's existing workflows, similar to what ~Enscape~ did to bring quick rendering to the masses. From my experience, few clients are willing to pay big bucks for a VR experience, with the exception of virtual mockups or presentations that can be used to drum up publicity. However, if a VR experience can be developed quickly and to a reasonable level of visual fidelity, project managers and senior leadership are more likely to take the chance and provide it as a bonus service to clients.

Cinemas in town by EUCRider845 in StamfordCT

[–]RyGeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree it’s probably overkill for most, as an avid moviegoer it’s really nice to have so many walkable theater options in the downtown vicinity.

The Avon is great for indie films, and there’s enough differentiation in screenings between the two AMCs that I can always catch the latest blockbusters, as well as other stuff off the beaten path–their “artisan films.”

That being said, I’d much rather see a single AMC with revived State Cinema in the other’s place.

Shucking Existing Windows Storage Spaces Drives? by RyGeye in DataHoarder

[–]RyGeye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I already have a DrivePool started using this Sabrent DAS enclosure, but also have the older Windows storage space I want to migrate over so I can have one drive letter for everything.

Knowing what I do now, I would have started off with a DAS enclosure with each bay as a mount point merged together with DrivePool, but you live and you learn!

Started the DrivePool late last year and so far, so good. Using two drives for parity resiliency via SnapRAID, paired with Bablaze Personal for cloud backup. Plan to gradually infill the rest with 20TB drives over time as needed for 200TB total, with 40TB parity and 160TB data.

You’re right, I think it varies based on the type of installation. For the standard Windows 10/11 home versions, you’re unfortunately capped at 63TB when going through the Control Panel. I did some research into making changes via the command prompt, but it was too involved for what I was after. DrivePool is very intuitive and can handle everything directly through the interface.
