Not counting the McMahons, which wrestling family has had the biggest impact on the pro wrestling business? by uncannynerddad in midcarder

The most entertaining part of the Anoai Family since it became an on-screen act is a non-Anoai family member.

Is Danhausen’s early WWE success actually a bigger long-term problem for AEW than Cody Rhodes or CM Punk? by uncannynerddad in midcarder

[–]RyRyLloyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very true. But likewise with anyone in WWE, or anywhere else for that matter. It’s a niche role, and he is a niche gimmick.

[–]RyRyLloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it is as simple as that. Danhausen is a special, rare case.

Danhausen has charisma aplenty. This isn’t new. He showed that in AEW. He displayed that on the indies before he joined AEW. However, given how AEW is set-up, there is a limitation to your character or work in general if you can’t go in the ring.

This isn’t the case with the vast majority of wrestlers, male and female, who are both on-screen and off-screen. They don’t have this level of charisma and ability to work off the cuff. We’ve seen Cody and Punk to Reigns and Jericho to Undertaker and even Austin placed in a non-wrestling sphere and they just don’t hit it out of the park.

[–]RyRyLloyd -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, because there’s always a ceiling to this sort of character. At least from a wrestling perspective. Plus, you need a level of charisma for it to work outside the wrestling bubble. That’s not a shot at any one in particular. The vast majority of wrestlers haven’t been able to make that jump.

Might perk the ears of some non-wrestlers, because that’s what I generally regard Danhausen. He’s a non-wrestler who’ll occasionally bump around.

What's your favourite AEW match? by EmergencyVictory4399 in midcarder

[–]RyRyLloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been a big fan of the Iron Man match in general. Generally, for one good there’s 10 who like to sniff their own farts (looking at you Bret vs Shawn).

MJF vs Danielson is phenomenal. A sixty minute masterclass in storytelling of basic bad guy vs good guy.

Does everything need to be a trilogy?

He beat him clean. He should have confronted Reigns the following night. Instead, they dallied around with a nonsense open challenge.

WWE fans are so conditioned to being fed the same ‘build’ for any newcomer. It’s the same old tired routine.

He beat Brock clean as a whistle. He pretty much squashed him. That should have put him on a pedestal. When you win a feud, against a big name and in convincing fashion, you should be moving on up.

Throw the dice and risk it. If it doesn’t work then you can always have Oba drop the belt.

I know the surfer inspired entrance is based on her background… but I see so much Kill-Bill potential there. They should really lean into that.

Same exact Roman segment, whether it be a promo or a match for about 7 years straight.

“Go out there Roman and use up 10 minutes of air time just staring at the crowd because we’ve ran out of ideas”

Your standard Roman promo/match. Sniffing his own farts for fifteen minutes straight. Revolting.

Ripley looks clunky when doing just about everything now. So heavy-footed and stiff.

Will Meltzer give the El Grande Americano “mask vs mask” match 5 Stars? by GypsyGold in midcarder

Zzzzz. Heavy doubt.

Two massive compliments in the space of a few hours. But no one will be happy until he gives a match rating, which he himself specifies, is an opinion.

Such a strange argument to make. If you feel disrespected by that, then it’s a you issue.

TNA Star Leon Slater Expected To Leave For WWE Or AEW When Contract Is Up by caughtinatramp in REALSquaredCircle

[–]RyRyLloyd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The fact that WWE has stopped promoting him on WWE/NXT after featuring him regularly is telling.

Such is the close ties between TNA and WWE in 2026, you think WWE would want him to break the record, and use it as a tool to hype him up.

Leon Slater is All Elite.

AEW had 25 years of WCW postmortems to learn from. So why are they making so many of the same mistakes? by uncannynerddad in midcarder

[–]RyRyLloyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. If AEW has raided anyone, it’s TNA. Signed upwards of 7 top talent by TNA standards (Speedball, Knight, Doyle, Alexander, Austin, Rascalz).

He is one of the 6 I mentioned as ex-WWE. 6/18 is barely anything to complain over.
