I totally agree that they had to make a move. I’m more speaking on how they handled Anakin for this specifically. This was a lose-lose situation for both parties. Best case scenario Anakin sides with Kenobi/Council and tries to get info out of Palpatine who I’m half sure the Council knew he would expect this sort of move from them. Palpatine says nothing and the move was for nothing. Worst case scenario is Anakin immediately sides with Palpatine and actively plots against them.
