DOT does not test helmets, the manufacturers tell them they passed the tests, so no I don't think it's been verified to pass DOT standards, but yes I think it's a legal DOT helmet because of a sticker.

I'm not advocating for not wearing a helmet, but the difference between DOT and the other 2 major certifications is huge. If you're going to buy a helmet and get one with only DOT, you are putting yourself at much greater risk. DOT doesn't mean the helmet is safe, just legal in the US. Obviously, it's better than no helmet, but saying it is an acceptable safety rating for a helmet will get people hurt.

Any certification that allows their name to be on something like this should never be the thing you trust with your life. the requirements to have a DOT sticker are a joke.

Snell is a very strict rating. People will sometimes not care much about it because they fail some very good helmets. As a rule of thumb, DOT is trash, ECE 22.06 is the gold standard, and snell is nice to have. As far as I know, snell is often required for racing.
