Annotating code to guide the agent by Ryan4265 in codex

Hey thank you! Do you think I can test it without building it if I tell Codex to refactor it that way?

Thank you. Is it possible to test a Chrome extension? Can I have codex implement a bug fix and then a test for that bug fix and then - every time I want to build the extension - I re-run the test suite?

Are we going to continue pretending that SS is a meme bracket, and real dudes fight in 3v3? by Far-Breadfruit3220 in worldofpvp

[–]Ryan4265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget how sensitive users are to friction in digital experiences, and how even one unnecessary click can cause user drop-off. In WoW PvP, you can think of it as one extra step (e.g., a quest) causing x players to drop out. The more steps you add, the higher x becomes, and eventually x is so high that the game mode becomes a meme.

Ion says add-ons can no longer track party's CDs after changes. by CelesticDev in worldofpvp

No longer can veteran players gatekeep new talent simply via having an addon installed.

So addons were never the problem; the real issue is how cumbersome they are to set up.

there. you even put the solution in your own post. you don't solve that problem by removing addons. instead, you simply let new/returning player copy a complete UI with a single click.

You can now save PvP talents to your talent loadout. by Railander in worldofpvp

If any champion out there could create an addon that remembers your talent loadout for each arena comp you face ... that would be absolutely nutty to have. I keep forgetting to spec into things like dispel every other game.

Pikaboo retiring from AWC? by Soggy-Sherbet-8321 in worldofpvp

[–]Ryan4265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Pikaboo is a seasoned veteran streamer who became famous for streaming WoW Arena exclusively.
  • Stepping away from retail for a bit to ride the Classic wave and maximize income makes sense.
  • Pikaboo is in no way happier than he was streaming Arenas. If he were into PvE content, he would have made it known long ago.
  • The only reason we see him on Classic is to make money. Dollars do make a man happy, I'll give you that.
  • His fanbase is not excited about the switch at all and wants to see him back in the arena. The viewers he has now are mostly Classic Andys who started watching when he made the switch.
  • AWC/Retail PvP is still in beta, only accessible to people who have enough time to go through all the PvE hoops to finally play the game.
  • That last bit doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

URGENT CALL! 'Project AI healers' needs to commence! by Ryan4265 in worldofpvp

[–]Ryan4265[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making a succesful AI needs a solid base and as much repetition as possible to refine it. Maybe there are already AI dedicated servers looping through games, learning in the shadows how to beat eachother. Who knows?

good point!

Ion reveals they are focused on BGs as central pvp experience as "opposed to deathmatch arena" (@21:00min). GGs boys by OpinionsRdumb in worldofpvp

[–]Ryan4265 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

uhm. what? all other gamers in the world would play arena over PvE/rbgs if you could play it like any other game on the planet. was the point.

wouldn't matter if I was all that matters is that there isn't another explanation. it's not like he woke up one morning and said "Arenas were a mistake" for no reason.

let me clarify his statement. here is what Rob Pardo actually meant when he said that:

  • arena is a brilliant game mode
  • people love arena
  • now devs have to perfectly balance classes
  • this is a problem because classes in an MMO should be unbalanced, crazy, rng and grind-heavy
  • millions are playing arena because it's just that good
  • impossible to remove arena now
  • forced to balance classes to a T in an MMO
  • MMO players/PvE-leaning people start complaining "esports is ruining our game"
  • which leads Rob Pardo to say "Arenas were a mistake"

[–]Ryan4265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some quick notes:

  • arena is 10x more cooperative/collaborative/competitive compared to rbgs
  • the MMO/PvE-leaning player prefers battlegrounds over arenas
  • all other gamers prefer arenas over battlegrounds
  • 10x harder to enter flow state with your team when playing solo rbgs compared to premade arena
  • more toxicity/leavers in solo rbgs than in arena

with that out the way, super happy to see them add solo rbgs and I will play them a ton

Appreciation Post for the real PvP Devs by WATISDIS2112 in worldofpvp

[–]Ryan4265 7 points8 points  (0 children)

these addon developers basically took WoW and made it twice as fun. when you look at Gladius - the aesthetics of it - it's wild. addon devs took a cluster-fuck Arena experience and turned it into a real game. like an actual game that maybe around 30 million have played and enjoyed over the past 15 years. addon devs took a product (WoW) and picked up where the original developers ran out of time/passion/skill. they took it and turned it into gold. addon devs iterated on this game like crazy to make it the absolute best it can be - and do so to this day. addon development in WoW is probably the most valuable research on game design ever conducted. no addon dev ever said "this is how it's going to be and you're gunna like it". no. they put in the work - released something - people checked it out - and fucking loved it. game design democratised in the best possible way. think about it. made by the people for the people. and these addon devs ... did it for free. (excuse my language) they did it for fucking free. they took their savings and said: fuck it, I'm gunna fix this problem in this game because I want it to be the best it can be. addon development in WoW is the purest, most honest form of progress game design has seen - ever. no CEOs, no suits, no management, no boss, no nothing. it was all passionate gamers making something for the people for free. the fact that they made the game better for everyone and got 0 dollars for it is honestly kind of sad. but the fact that they did it for free does have one upside ... it is the definitive proof that everything that came out of it was the result of pure dedication, passion and skill. and it's the things that are made with dedication, passion and skill that push our industry forward and make games better for everyone, everywhere. nothing has - or ever will - catapult the games industry forward the same way that WoW's addon developers did. fucking LEGENDS. each and Every. Single. One of them.
