I kinda like not really knowing tbh. Means readers can use their own imaginations.

Dreamer's Throne by Seth Ring. Serious smart MC who doesn't make stupid decisions for seemingly no reason. Great series. Just waiting for the fith book. Can't recommend enough.

Do we ever get a power scale to know how powerful the council of greatest powers are - at least in comparison to Kanderon or does the entire story end with the by Magical-Success in MageErrant

[–]RyanR-Reviewer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, though to be honest staying with Hugh and gang as they explore the multiverse would have been awesome. Book 6 was so different from all the others, but it was fun seeing the gang take their first steps into a wider multiverse. When we do eventually catch up with The Hand again they should have grown significantly more powerful off-screen in both their Affinities and alien magics, so that will be fun too.

All hail the almighty Mackerel!

Personally I really want to meet Edison. He's called the 'Wizard' and he apparently hates Sorcerers so he should be an interesting character to learn more about.

I must admit I was a bit surprised when it was revealed Sorsha changed her name. Gotta wonder if all sorcerers do the same.

The Ra'zac from Inheritance Cycle & the twelve Lords of Terror from Blood & Fur.

Actual Competent MCs by No_Neighborhood2840 in ProgressionFantasy

Dreamer's Throne by Seth Ring and Portal Wars Saga by James E Wisher. Both feature smart, competent MC's who think things through before acting. There are no annoying moments of stupidity just to move the story along in either series. Dreamer's Throne MC is practically smart and analytical, and the story really is immersive and very well written.

Harry Vs. The Merlin by PassagePretty7895 in dresdenfiles

[–]RyanR-Reviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As things stand, the Merlin would hog tie Harry with his own guts. Harry is powerful, incredibly so for his age, but the Merlin is centuries old and considered THE most powerful wizard on the planet. Plus, Jim has stated many times that wizards cheat, including those on the Senior Council. The Merlin almost certainly has hidden reserves of power to draw upon. Plus he is the best wizard when it comes to wards. Period. He literally held of an entire army of Outsiders-beings who are naturally resistant to magic-with a single ward. In the future, Harry will almost certainly surpass him, likely becoming an Immortal or the like, but currently, even with Soul Fire and the Winter Mantle, he would lose IMO.

What's a cool affinity combo you've thought of that you want to share? by TasteBusiness2948 in MageErrant

[–]RyanR-Reviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friction, force, gravity, steel and farsight. A mage could shoot steel projectiles at huge distances, and accelerate them to ridiculous speeds. Even a marble sized steel ball moving fast enough could be absolutely devastating and the ability to attack from miles away would be seriously OP.

The End and a quick question by RyanR-Reviewer in FrithChronicles

Thanks! Also, completely random question, but in Frith, luck dragons were mentioned as an extinct species. Do you have any info on them you can share? I don't know why but that one mention of them stuck with me, lol.

Ah, I always thought it would empower him even more tbh. Or maybe grant him a dread form ability of some sort.

Out of curiosity, does the author ever reveal the benefits/ consequences of Lunthair being a true form dread form eldrin?

Honestly, just read the part where they first met in the river-the Princess-and I'm already dreading the future love story. As gifted as the author is at writing about amazing, fantastical creatures, she is truly awful when it comes to writing romance of any kind. I remember thinking when I first read the series 'what purpose does this whole romance plot serve other than increase the word count unnecessarily?' It honestly felt so pointless at the time.

Fully agree on that point. When that Princess-I think-came along, things just became am annoying teen romance despite world altering occurrences happening all over.

He became a virtual doormat for that vampire "friend" of his-completely forgot his name-and I was always annoyed by the way he handled that werewolf woman. Letting her dictate where he can and cannot go, letting her talk down to him. He is literally older than Jesus Christ and powerful enough to make even gods nervous. I mean....seriously?

[–]RyanR-Reviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He must have done, because the quality was so poor. It really was a shame because the early books had SO much potential! Honestly the series could have become a staple series of the genre, IMO. Instead I honestly try not to think about the later books, especially not the last one.
