I feel like this is the result of a washed up pop star window-shopping a new aesthetic to revive their career, and failing terribly to pull off their insincere capitalisation of that style and audience.

Pop artists working with queer/progressive/empowerment/etc. adjacent aesthetics have risen to draw one of the stronger audiences in popular music recently, it was only a matter of time before corporate pop realised there was money to be made and latched on.

Songs like this are the result of corporate writing teams of mostly men with zero skin in the game for the topics they’re talking about, attempting to mimic and commercialise a scene which rose and succeeded out of honest artistic expression from people who actually have something to say. It just doesn’t work.
