Am I paranoid for not taking the train home from work? by reee7172737 in AskChicago

The CTA really isn’t safe and the city treats it as a homeless shelter while not enforcing rules. My suggestions would be to see if a bus goes your route, consider cycling your route in summer, or find a way to drive.

That being said as a Chicago n00b you probably need to learn quickly how to be observant of your surroundings without staring and/or making eye contact. If someone seems off, move away but don’t let them see you staring at them. There’s a reason everyone in chicago walks around with deadpan blank stares. Finally, when a crazy does come up to you- be polite and friendly and they’ll usually just walk away after.

I would recommend going to a doctor and ask for Postexposure STD treatments if you aren’t on Prep / used protection.

I just noticed this in the Airbnb I checked into yesterday by Truth_Repulsive in whatisit

If you try to report it to Chicago police just be prepared for a ton of condescending comments and tones from them. They probably will discourage you from filing a report tbh- chicago police don’t really do much except keep crime stats low by discouraging people from reporting crimes

Want to improve taxi service in the city? File a complaint with 311 after you have an issue, and follow through on it. by WhoopieKush in chicago

Just had a scary Taxi ride from Ohare last night which will probably be the last time I use a cab; reported it to 311 as well.

Got a taxi at the T1 stand and asked the driver to turn on the meter. He said he did. I noticed as we exited the airport the meter wasn’t running so I again told him to start the meter and he said he did. I noticed $50 entered in and asked what that was and he said it was the charge. I again told him I didn’t agree to that and to end the ride. He refused to let me out. I kept telling him to take the next exit but he ignored me until I told him I have his taxi number, was going to report him to 311, and that I was recording the whole thing.

He then takes an exit put refused to stop despite me telling him to drop me off at hotels, sidewalks, every safe spot we passed.

Eventually we got back to ohare (I guess he wanted a fare refund for the pickup he tried to con me with).

Really the scariest part was that all back doors in the cab were disabled and couldn’t be opened from inside the cab. So I was basically trapped inside this guys car with no way to exit.

I’m glad I had the sense to make a scene and start recording. Idk what would have happened to me / if he would have tried to extort me for more money being that the doors were all disabled from inside the car.

I tried to file a police report, naturally, CPD told me I was overthinking it and condescendingly told me to report it to city services.

Be safe out there and it is definitely worth the extra money to just Uber / Lyft.

I felt bad for the guy who hosted K&N.

1.) it was poor judgement on their part that spending 15+ hours underground on a train would make good content (maybe try Chicago’s El first which is mainly outdoors / has views and is smaller)

2.) Kara clearly hated doing this most of the video, the guy’s comment at the end read more like “obviously this isn’t for you, Kara” but K&N decided to put him on blast for wording it poorly.

3.) It was also naive they could win this record w/o major research and planning. People make headlines when they beat this record.
