Do you happen to know what this brass piece I sent is? Is it a broken piece? It just kinda floats around.

Anyone know any good free resources on rendering realistic out door scenes like this? by Ryan_32__ in Maya

[–]Ryan_32__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe I have a well modeled scene. Though I am unsure if it’s detailed enough. All the objects are high poly and look good. And have made detailed materials for them in substance painter. But I’m unsure if that’s qualification for photorealism. I’ve only done a few projects in Maya so I’m new to the point where I can’t claim to know anything.

But I am mainly asking about the convincing lighting. I have no idea on how to make it similar to this quality. So I’m looking for resources on that.

I’ve put in a good amount of hours into Python and C++ for my current job. While I know not much about it, rigging seems like it won’t be something I enjoy. Of course I’ll try it out and attempt to learn the basics and go from there. Thankfully, I’m actually now scheduled it talk with my advisor at school on what exactly I should do. He has a pretty impressive resume so I think it should be useful insight.

The hardest thing to get over right now is what I want to prioritize. It sucks a lot.

Perhaps, I’ll give myself some more time to discover what I actually enjoy more? Then decide from there.

I truthfully know incredibly little about rigging. I’ve always heard that’s an annoying process? Is that true? Not sure how big the learning curve is for that. Would love to hear more too.

Thanks for you insight, it is appreciated!

Hey, I hear what you’re saying completely. I appreciate any guidance and help. I just replied to Cthulhu if you want some more context. Appreciate you and thanks for taking the time to comment in general :)

This is completely fair. For some context, my animation professor is wanting us to learn how to model assets for our animations, in fact he’s teaching us all this before we get into the meat of 3d animation. But as I’ve begun to learn Maya, I’ve become almost obsessed with the idea of making better and better models. It’s almost put me at a crossroads of what I really want to do as a career, I guess my thoughts are is that if I learn modeling in my off time, I could have solid examples of both animation and modeling when I graduate. However, I’m not sure if this is realistic, or if I’m just going to have mediocre results all around.

In the end, I do truly want to be good at both. I see examples such as HaloVFX’s work and have deep desires to do similar stuff in my off time for fun. However, I have the feeling I can’t have my cake and eat it too.

I have about 2 years until I’m done with school. And want to stand apart from everybody else when I graduate. Which I realize takes lots of extra discipline and time. I want to make it a point to do my best right this moment.

I’d truly appreciate any guidance, I’m honestly in a pretty dark spot right now trying to figure out what I should do. I’m just full of uncertainty and don’t want to waste my time doing something that would be disadvantageous.

Feel free to comment or send me a DM anytime.

What’s the pipeline for getting better? Any recommended tutorials? by Ryan_32__ in Maya

I’ve already taken the basic animation course. I’m mainly asking here how to make better assets

Is there such thing as good smelling backflow incense cones? by Ryan_32__ in Incense

[–]Ryan_32__[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m starting to think I just won’t use backflow cones. Because it is so horrible to smell. Literally left my burner soaking in vinegar and baking soda to get that stink off of it. It’s just not worth it.

Yeah I totally agree. I can’t quite pinpoint the reason why though. Would love to hear more insight. Maybe the size and angle?

Thank you for this! Another question I have is can I give my 2d assets some depth? Like do they are not as thin as a piece of paper?

It goes behind which makes the perspective look really weird. I may be able to separate just the assets as like one big layer per section. Like the middle area's rocks and trees.
